Banded 5/3 - OOPS, No Band!!

Recommended Posts

So, I am going into surgery to have my Lap Band on 5/3 or so I thought. When I woke up in recovery I was told I had too much scar tissue to clean up and in order to not cause infection from a "foreign body" I would have another surgery in 2 months to get the band put in. I was just released from the hospital today.

This is so discouraging! I was so ready to start my new life. This is just another little bump in the road to my ultimate goal of being healthy.

Thanks 4 reading! :bored:

That would be a real downer. Hope they succeed next time.

What was the scar tissue from?

So they cleaned up the scar tissue instead of banding you? I know it is a dissapointment, but don't give up on your dream. It WILL happen. Remember we are here for you.

:bored: Good luck and God Bless you.

Our thoughts and support are with you. You know your doctors are doing the best thing to prepare you for success with your band.

I am so heavy that I worked harder than I may have needed to on my pre-op diet. Even so the surgeon encountered more fat around my stomach and liver than he was expecting. Luckily he was able to remove it while only extending my procedure by about an hour.

I told him before we headed into the OR that my second biggest fear, next to dying, was awaking in recovery to learn that the band had not been able to be placed because I failed on my prep diet.

There was nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening. I had too much scar tissue from 4 previous stomach surgeries. And yes it was one of my fears, waking up in recovery to hear that I was not banded.

Don't give up!!! Don't let the discouragement sabotage you- act like you got the band, and then you will be ahead of the game when you are banded!

Remember everything happens for a reason. Don't take this a set back. Just think in 2 months when you go in how much more prepared you will be to start your banded life. I wish you the best! Take care.

That stinks, I'm sorry. But they will still be able to do it! And if you lose weight on your own from now until then it will make the next surgery that much more safer!

That's disappointing for you, but be happy that your doctor was smart enough to prevent complications and allow your body to heal before further surgery. It would be so much worse to have a band put in only to cause further damage, and later need removing. Big picture focus, this is only a teeny percent of the rest of your life, which will be longer and healthier after you lose weight.

Good luck

I'm so sorry to hear that! I didn't even realize that you could go into the surgery and come out and not be banded. I guess I thought that with all the hoops you have to jump through beforehand they would have it figured out if you need corrective surgeries or other interventions before you have the band. I'm glad that your surgeon had the sense to fix these things for you though.

At least you had a good doctor that wouldn't do anything to harm you and he was thinking of your health. Two months is nothing considering how much time you have had to wait. HUGS

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
