Theres no secrets. Just eating healthy and listening to what your doctor/nutritionist tell you. Read around the boards a bit and you'll see. Good luck!

Regular workouts are one secret to success. Highly reccomend you start as soon as possible. Do what you can and increase time/intensity gradually. Also very important is getting enough protien, at least 60 gms a day. Lots of Water helps with hunger and helps your body loose fat. Good luck!

VLP is right. Regular aerobic activity is essential to losing weight. Get lots of lean Protein. My personal "secret" is green leafy veggies like kale and spinach. They are loaded with nutrients. Steer clear of simple carbs like crackers and chips, because they will stall weight loss. I also avoid processed foods, and try to eat "clean" most of the time. Good Luck!

I mostly do the low carb.... reason being I was instructed no bread, rice, tortillas, Pasta, so I thought what the heck let's incorporate the low carb diet. It took me around 3 months after the band to realize this and so far so good. I will be honest with you, I do this mostly Mon - Friday and try to stay aware of what I eat, but if I want a donut (etc) I will have ONE and not the whole box like I use to.

I was banded on 06/15/09 and so far have lost 79lbs. I read somewhere that the lapband is a ratio of 80:20 80% you and 20% lapband.

LOSE IT AS YOU WILL LIVE IT!!!

Good Luck on your new journey!!

Hi, Beba! Working out helps a ton (also with making sure your body looks good as you lose!), so does focusing on getting enough Protein as a main dietary strategy. Also, making sure that you are proactive about your follow-up care and get a fill if you aren't at good restriction (or an un-fill if you're too tight) helps a lot.

You should check out a bunch of bandster blogs -- I found that really helpful. There is a link to mine below, and I have links to some of my favorite blogs posted on there as well.

Best wishes,

Catherine

Eating wise, no special strategy or secrets. I just ate/eat less consistently, day in day out, than I did before banding. I eat from all food groups and I have the occasional treat. I dont count Protein, calories, fat, carbs.

Today is a typical day - a handful of raw macadamias for Breakfast, I have a yogurt for morning tea, about a cup of vegie and lentil Soup for lunch, when I get home from work is usually when I want something sweet, my son made some great choc chip Cookies the other night, I'll probably have one with a cuppa. dinner tonight is going to be tacos made with home made cilli and salad ingredients. I dont do any products like shakes and bars, I consider them processed foods and not the healthiest choices. I cook from scratch and try to include plenty of fresh produce, I buy organic most of the time.

The one thing I think really made a difference to me was running - an hour most days of the week. I wont ever give that up.

wow catherine you look great,,,I see a big difference in the shape of your face...keep up the good work..... BEBA for me personally(everyone is different) some sort of exercise is a huge boost to your weight loss.. I eat lots of Protein and fish just about every day... after the first few months... I now eat whatever I wantmostly good ( and some not so good) I just get fuller a LOT faster,,,the trick is breaking the mind into a new mindset and STOPPING when you are full.....I know get the same full feeling eating a half or 3/4 slice of pizza then I did before the band eating 5 or 6 slices of pizza. Its not like you are NEVER going to eat those foods you loved before ever again....just eat them slowly and enjoy the taste and you will eat less of it because of the band and feeling fuller quicker with less food.... There are no foods I CANNOT ever have again...just go in moderation and try and eat healthier and better selections and treating yourself to a peice of chocolate cake will not kill you... I tried it and ate 4 bites and I was done... I was satisfied with the taste.

for me the mindset was my biggest obstacle to hurdle. I had to get thru my mind I didnt NEED 4 slices of pizza ... Im now content on a half of slice or so...the food taste a lot better when you take your time and not woof it down fast....sorry for going on and on...just trying to let you know how Iam dealing/living with it... and it seems to be working for me...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
