Hi Everyone,

I am 33 years old and weigh 128kgs

I am looking at getting lap banding done but i would also like to get pregnant soon before i get too old.

I am just wondering what would be best to do first banding or baby?

I would suggest that you have a chat to your doctor as they might have a better idea of your current health and chances of conception etc.

I got banded almost a year ago in the hope that it would help me be healthy enough to fall pregnant. I was almost 33 then and am now quickly approaching 34, my husband and I are now trying for a baby - I am much lighter and even if conception is difficult at least fertility doctors will be more willing to help me as I am healthier, lighter and have much lower blood pressure.

I agree it is a hard decision - I guess a bit of soul searching is the only advice I can actually offer.

Good luck achieving all of your goals regardless of the order.

I happen to have a strong opinion on this!! I say get the band first for sure! I got my band approx. 16 months ago in anticipation of having a baby. No way was I going to go into a pregnancy at 235lbs!! So I got the band, lost 52 lbs and now I'm 8 wks pregnant and happy that I have this great tool to keep me from gaining so much weight that I know I would have gained otherwise!

From my personal opinion, I think you should be willing to wait at least a year before getting pregnant, though I don't think it's required.

Congrats on both the future band and future baby!!

I completely agree with CindyLou2u. I really want to have a second child but there is no way I would get pregnant at 260lbs. The pregnancy would be miserable. Let's not even speak about having to take care of two child being overweight and unhealthy. I've decided being healthy is the best decision for me and my future baby. Lose the weight first. I'm 27 so I'm not worried about waiting. You're not old you have time, wait, wait wait

i totally agree...band...then baby! that's my plan. i am also 32 and hoping by this time next year to be a lot healthier and working n a baby. my doctor said i would also be better off to wait till after the band. he said its safer for me and baby!

Agree band then baby...I was 31 when I got the band and I am now 18 weeks pregnant..I wouldn't of been able to get pregnant or wanted to without having the band first...I have lost 50 lbs and can't imagine being pregnant 50 lbs heavier...I would say your health comes first and then once your healthy have a baby...good luck

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
