Mine says "Gastric Lap-Band® with Abdominal Port, No NG W/O Scope" and has my ICE contact.

In CPR training I went through recently I spoke with the paramedic. My port is located where it could potentially interfere with an AED, so it is good for them to know it is there.

Also, I figure that emergency folk might wonder what the tumor under my skin is if not explained easily, even with the scar.

In a recent visit to Urgent Care and a separate conversation with an ER doctor, none had seen a band patient before. The more info they have, the better, in my book.

Thanks to you I just ordered a med Bracelet from ebay and I dont even have a surgery date yet. You give a fabulous argument.

When I had my band I just purchased a medical Bracelet for general purposes and always carried my band card with me. It worried me that if I had an accident that my port or band might complicate matters in saving my life.

I ordered one the week before I was banded! And let me tell you when I did my ER internships ppl with a med ID were easier to treat. The paramedic would've already phoned in the info on the way so if there were allergies to meds or special considerations the floor was prepared before you ever arrived & in life or death situations that extra 20mins we spend looking thru your wallet & your phone calling your family for your medical Hx can be detrimental to your health! Lots of people carry epi pens in their purses but you know when youre in anaphylatic shock its pretty impossible to tell anybody! =/ Something really simple can save your life so why not?!

I get banded on June 3rd, but I already have an ID necklace. Mine says, ON COUMADIN LAP BAND NO BLIND NG TUBE. We were told in class that it was a good idea to have one.

In incorporated this in to my goal lists-

Getting approved for surgery with date - Tiffany's charm Bracelet - I got the cheaper one just over $100

Surgery complete - added my medi-sterling silver charm with pertinent info engraved

First 50 lbs added the Tiffany dog bone charm - since my doggie has walked every walk with me that's a LOT about 25 miles a week.

2nd 50lbs - I already have my eye on one then I'm awarding at 25lbs intervals after first 100.

I really like those Lauren's Hope ones. I am going to order one when I get close to surgery. I have diabetes and should have been wearing one all along. Now I figure it's dumb to get one now and get a new one in a few months. Thanks for the encouragement!

I keep my Lap-Band Patient ID card in my wallet at all times. It is visible. I would hope if needed to ID me the emergency personnel would see the info on the card and the picture of the LB system.

We have an organization called MedicAlert here which as a member, I get a complimentary engraved emblem Bracelet, a wallet card and a log-in to view my medical history, medication and what-not - as can any medical professional should they need to. It's not just for the band for me.

It's better to be safe then sorry. (:

Ok, I ordered a cheapo one on ebay for now. It is an Italian charm Bracelet, and I got one charm that says type 2 diabetes and one that says lap band. That way I can wear the diabetes one now and add the other one later. But I definitely am going to upgrade later on.

I have a couple of questions. I wasnt thinking about getting one but I definately am now. The problem is that only a select few know about me doing this. If I get a Bracelet, everyone will see it and know.

I did look at Lauren's hope and saw some very nice ones. However, if they are too decorative, wil the EMT even realize they are a medical ID bracelet?

I was thinking of a tattoo around the port area.

Any insight? Thanks!

I got one but was too lazy to get up off the couch and measure my arm so I guessed and I guessed too small. So it sits on my dresser hoping one day soon I will be able to wear it without my circulation getting cut off.

I'm sorry to ask this but what does no NG W/O Scope and what should you put on the Bracelet, dr's name and # and ???

No NG w/o scope means No Nasal Gastric tube that does not have a scope on it should be put down into your esophogus. Without a scope they will not see or know that you have a band & meet resistance & cause you unnecessary trauma (especially if you have restriction.)

On medical IDs u really just need to list your conditions, special drugs you take like coumadin which would tell med staff that you're at risk for bleeding out. Allergies (especially drug allergies) should be listed. But its not necessary to have your doctors name & # unless you have some special rare condition. The listing of your condition should be enough for a trained professional to assess your particular needs. Lap band is newer so some people aren't familiar with it which is why you'd want to list No NG tube w/o scope but someone with say Type II diabetes doesn't have to say 'No sugar' bc its pretty much assumed.

Good idea to list are things like: allergic to latex, or any kind of drug or food. Especially if your allergic reactions are life threatening ie: anaphylactic shock. If you're taking anticoagulants or insulin. If you have diabetes, epilepsy, or other chronic conditions that you may become unconcious. Have implants such as percutaneous implants, pace maker, dialysis access ports etc.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
