HMMMM you could call it a lightheaded feeling...

permalink

Hi,

Am new to this thread.

I am in Adelaide and was banded by Dr Justin Bessell on 1st July 2009.

Starting weight 150.2kg - now down to 120kg.

Happy with progress, but wanted to ask if anyone else has had or is having this problem.

I have thought quite a bit about how I could describe what I am feeling, going through, so here goes.

Some times through out the day I get this lightheaded, fuzzy head, not dizzy feeling and this can happen sometimes a lot through out the day or 1 or 2 times at different times of the day. It is scaring me a touch. I have had blood tests and they have all come back fine. I am taking my Vitamins, and making sure I drink enough Water throught out the day.

So there, I have tried my hardest to put into words this strange feeling I am having.

Here's hoping someone else is going through the same thing, or others can offer me advice or help.

Thanks

H

Are you on blood pressure meds? That will make you dizzy if you are taking them and your blood pressure went down due to weight loss. What about insulin, are you on that?

I agree with above post. Low blood suger or low blood pressure can sure make you lightheaded. If you have diebeties you may be able to reduce or even eliminate your meds. I was able to cut mine in half about 2 months after being banded.

I had a fainting episode one night (checked my blood sugar in the am and the reader just said lo) so my doc. told me to stop taking the med. I would talk to your pcp for sure.

I was feeling tired for a few days, then dizzy when I was trying to get some housework done. It ended up being my high blood pressure medicine. I took my blood pressure and it was ridiculously low. I quit my bp medicine and my bp has been in the normal range ever since and I feel great.

I experienced the same 2 months post op and went to see the my dr and found that my pressure was 110 - 60. He decided to reduced it from 10 mg to 5 mg - which I did for a week then stopped - I continued to feel like I was going to pass out. It's been over 4 months now with NO meds and on average my BP is 123/60.

As the previous posters mentioned, get your BP and blood sugar checked. It's amazing how quickly our bodies respond for the better with weight loss.

I also am off all Blood pressure meds. I do get that lightheaded feeling though from time to time anyway. When I check my BP, it is usually quite low so I know what it is. Knowing it helps, but if you are taking meds you need to talk to your doc about it. Continuously low BP is dangerous also..... Hugs!!!

I agree with the above posters.

I have been on high BP meds for about 7 years. Banded last June still on BP meds. BP last checked at beginning of year and at that stage it was normal - GP did not suggest coming off meds.

Went to Albury for daughters 21st 2 weeks ago. Went out for dinner all good. Hubby drove back to hotel, walking to the lift I had a pain in my stomach and was feeling slightly unwell. Next thing I know I am lying on the floor of the lift with my husband and son looking very concerned. I have fainted before but not for years and previously I have come to fairly quickly. Apparently this time I was out for a couple of minutes so the hotel called an ambulance!

When the paramedics tested my BP was so low they could not initially get a lower reading. The next attempt it went up to approx 90/60! They took me to Albury base hospital where I was kept in overnight. They ran ECGs, bloods etc. The only thing they could find other than my very low BP was low potassium so they made me drink a vile tasting supplement. It was a bit like salty raspberry juice!

I then visited my GP during the week who retested BP, did a repeat ECG and took more bloods(still waiting for those results). ECG all fine. BP normal despite not having taken my meds for about 4 days so I have now been advised to stop taking them.

I am really pleased about that but the way I found out was not the best. Would far rather have spent the night in a nice comfortable hotel bed than a bright noisy emergency ward where you get no sleep. I was very impressed by the NSW health service though. The ambulance got there really quickly, the paramedics were really wonderful(only complaint is they weren't hot. LOL), my son and I both got our first ride in an ambulance and I was really well looked after in the hospital.

So I would suggest getting your BP checked and also blood sugar, Iron etc. Being anaemic can also make you feel really horrible.

You could look at a 100 different things. Yes blood pressure and blood sugar are good places to start. Then if you want to scare yourself a little, started looking at the pressure in your brain and heart. Not only do I have IcP(intracranial brain HTN), but I halso have a pulmondary shunt in my heart. So count yourself lucky. I found mind by fainting at work in a patient's room. Viral things also cause vertigo as well lack of sleep, inner ear issues, neck issues, eye issues, neurities clots...the list go on and on( i think you get the drift)..............I wouldn't stress about it too much...Live you life and be aware of it......I know it is somewhat concerning, but If i went to the Doctor everytime I got dizzy, I would be broke broke broke........May the force be with you.....onenuttynurse:smile:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
