It doesnt work the same for everyone

Headin, I'm sorry to hear that all is not going well for you (I remember the struggles you overcame to get banded)! It is true that "insanity is doing the same thing and expecting something different." I got off to a slow start with the lapband, but then found a post on the slow-losers thread that worked for me. Her name was NewSho and this is the link to her thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f137/few-tips-slow-loser-now-past-goal-69621/ Just like she says, the more protien I eat, the more the weight seems to melt away. I really hope that you find that what works for you--whatever that might be.

sorry to hear about your experience and slow weight loss. is there any way that you can get sleeved?

Im sure I could get sleeved, but honestly, after spending 10k on a surgery that didnt work for me, I would NEVER get another one. The only WLS Im convinced would work for me is a bypass since they actually take out a good part of your intestines and thus you cannot absorb much in the way of calories. Thats a pretty good guarantee of weight loss. But the side effects are soooo crazy, and I have seen so many people gain the weight back after a few years of the bypass! I would never do that to myself. And the sleeve sounds good, but I am not convinced it would work for me after this failure with the band. Im just going to live with the choice I made of the lapband.

Ah Willowcat! I read your posts and I am so happy that you are doing so well with the band. It was such a bumpy journey to even afford this band, travel to Mexico, and be banded. I was sure at the time it was the answer to all my weight loss problems. No such luck. I hope that by tweeking some things likemy Protein intake amount that I can turn this around. I really want this band to work for me too. Thanks for the link. You are so kind and thoughtful. Not only words of encouragement, but also useful information! Who could ask for more in a friend?

This is why I love this website. I was banded in June 2009 also. Weight loss has been really slow for me maybe we June folks got a bad batch of bands...lol. I did however stop getting fills and I think that was the problem I gained and losed the same 10 pounds for like the last4 months. I went to see my doctor last month and got another fill. I have lost the 10 again now I am waiting to see if I can get passed that 10. I have lost 55lbs since the surgery. I realize from this site everyone goes at their own pace. Don't give up.

hello every one...I am feeling slightly better now that I found this forum...

I am counting my calories, eating good Protein, exercising and yet not loosing weight!!

I am fed up now ,almost...last 2 months almost no weight loss...I loose a few pounds but they come back quickly...

I was banded on 17th march, lost 14 pounds in the first 2 months....now my body is just not responding....

I have not had a fill as after reading about fills and unfills I am afraid....even after so many fills people dont loose...they can hardly eat...they throw up....

I just dont know why this is happening...too depressed...

Hopeful, your band can't work right without a fill. I was scared of fills too until I started getting them. Dr's usually fill you up really slowly so as not to overfill you. The first three or four fills I got didn't even give me restriction. Then I finally got restriction. Had a few PB episodes that weren't that bad (plenty of time to get to a rest-room) and learned how to eat slow, chew well, and avoid them all together (for the most part, 99% of the time anyways).

However, even being at restriction didn't get me to goal. And excersising hasn't really helped much. I started this thread a year or so ago and have been taking off and putting on the same five pounds. I lost 35 pounds with the lap band out of the 60 I wanted to lose. A lot of statistics say that people will loose a little over half their excess body weight. I guess that was the catagory I fell into. It is very disapointing, but I do realize that it is great that I lost more than half my excess weight and that it hasn't come back. I am confident that I will be able to keep this weight off. Without the band I would have only gained more weight in the years since I was banded. So it isn't all a loss. My first Dr wouldn't band me because I was low BMI. He said that he didn't think I would lose enough weight to warrent the surgery. I would say in one part he was right, I didn't lose much weight; but I still don't regret the surgery. I am now just "overweight" and no longer obese. I don't gain 5 pounds in two weeks if I go off my diet.

You should call your Doc and get a fill Hopeful. I know its scary; but you were brave enough to get the band, you can find the courage to face the fear and get the fill. You will be ok. I was scared too for my first fill, but once I got the first one out of the way they got easier and easier to get. Its not that bad and restriction is what will help you lose the weight. Good luck!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
