banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group

Recommended Posts

Hi Ron and Katie! I'm glad you're both here!

Crystl, your name suits you---as does Hummingbird, actually. Do you have a preference?

Denise, yes! From what I gather, the band's tubing can irritate the vagus; I wonder if that's what's going on?! I've heard of people who've had intractible hiccups as a result of this, but that's pretty minor compared to your BP issues....but man, that makes perfect sense. When you get home, I'd give your surgeon a call; he can investigate for you.

Nothing fun on my agenda today--I have to grade quizzes, tests, discussion forums, and final exams.

To increase the excitement, I think I will do laundry, too. Yee-haw!

Oh! In incessant BB blather: I got a 1900 calorie deficit yesterday--with a handful of extra activities. This tells me that on an ordinary day, I won't have any trouble, with my long walks with Truman (which burn far more calories than FitDay tells me--I must be going farther and faster than I thought), reaching my deficit goal.

Too bad my scale doesn't translate that straight to pounds lost. THAT process reminds me of how I get paid for freelance work: I do the hard work. I sweat and struggle and meet impossible deadlines. Then I wait forever for the vendor to pay the development house who pays me....

Yep, that's about how weight comes off my body.

Have a great day, everyone!

Everyone just calls me HB except for Mark. He calls me Crystl (my real name). I told him once and he didn't forget....nice guy even with the smart ass.

Mark:lol::redface::lol:! "Mark" and I started farming on Farmville on the same day, I have like 30K points he has over 300K. But his farm is full so maybe he will be back soon. And by the way, Elfie is there on FB too. I wish you would join us. You don't have to farm or even be in Elfie's mafia if you don't want to.

Betsy--I am with you on the slow loss not adding up like it should, but a 1900 deficit! WOW! That is great. I have been hovering around 900-1200.

I did lose 1 pound plus the "3" real or imagined BB ones. I am getting up the courage now to go run the first day on week 3 of C25K. It involves running for 3 min straight. I'm scared.

Karen--How was your performance yesterday? Was your sore throat gone? Lets have a BB report!

Katie--Glad you feel better, optimism is a great thing, I think attitude is 90% of making the body band work.

Annie--I would save the BB for later in your journey. I think it is for really fine tuning the program. Heck, your already getting a head start on me by exercising this early in your process. I was stubborn and didn't start until a couple of months in.

Anne, each day of the pre-op diet that passes marks a day closer to banding day! You are so close now!

HB, hummingbird, Crystl ........they all work great. Sometimes it bugs poeple that my name is missing the "a", but after 45 yrs. I'm used to it.

Speaking of hummingbirds, They came back here to the city above the clouds! This always marks spring finally being here for me. We get many hummingbirds for spring and summer and other really cool birds. I make sure I feed them to keep them around.

We woke up to snow yesterday morning. The sun melted it pretty quickly, but then it became overcast and rained off and on. We have had snow several times this past week and I am ready for some warmer weather. Today is a sunny day, so I hope to get outside for awhile.

We went bowling again yesterday and my size 14 pants were feeling baggy in the butt! They are a pretty forgiving style/cut, but now it makes me want to go closet shopping and see if there are some tighter ones that may fit soon.

Kids, gotta love 'em. As I have mentioned before, I have an 8 yr. old grandson who is the light of my life.

He and my son lived with me until he was 6, so I am very attached. I still have him at my house several days a week. My son has full sole custody (long story). Well, last friday I went to a "fancy dress up tea party" in my grandson's 2nd grade class. The kids all wore oversized dress up clothes and the parents were encouraged to dress up for the tea party. It was very unorganized and chaoitic, but fun. They served punch and Cookies and each kid introduced the adult that came with them and told something about that adult when they were a kid. Then they moved all the desks to the sides of the room and we all danced to oldies. After we were seated with our Snacks my grandson whispered, "can you eat this stuff?" He doesn't really know the details about my band, but knows I can't eat some things. Anyway, it was a fun time and I hope it is a good memory for him. We danced a lot and the teacher took our picture.

I get my hair highlighted every 11 weeks, but the gal that has done it for years had a shoulder injury, so had me go to a friend of hers this last time. She screwed it up so bad! I'm upset about it and called my gal. She can't fix it until the 28th. Many people have made comments about it. My husband even said something.

This is the guy who still has not commented about my weightloss after 88 pounds! If he says something about my bad hair, it must be pretty bad! Yesterday my grandson said, "is that what they call dirty blonde?, because it only looks a little pink." GRRRR! pink!

I didn't know there were pink Hummingbirds, see you do learn something here everyday!

Fancy dress up tea party sounds so fun. I wish my baby still did stuff like that, I guess I am going to have to wait for the next generation.

NSV ALERT: I can run 3 min. without stopping. More than once! Its not running a 5K but its a start. When I started this 14 days ago, I could barely run for 60 seconds. We have a 5k "turkey trot" on Thanksgiving day, I am thinking about winning it. :)

Hi gals and guys! Leigha thanks for the invite! It's nice to hang out with positive people--Life is too short for the other kind, I think. I'm a teacher and school is over in one week! Yeah! Back to regular exercise! My bandiversay is June 4th--I'd like to see 100 lbs lost to celebrate! My husband says that it's only numbers and don't get too hung up on them--I guess humans are funny that way (I still want to see 100 lbs lost by then--wish me luck!). Last night we went to the movies--first time in a long time--and the best part of the movie (besides watching Russell Crowe) was sitting in the seat and having plenty of room to spare between me and the stranger in the seat next to me--no embarassing overflow! :)

I would love to hit the 100 lb mark in 1 year. At my snail rate lately it's not going to happen. I am just happy the first 75-80 lbs came off fast. I know the rest will happen, just maybe not as fast as I want it to.

btw, I think my hair is more orange. My grandson said it is a little pink. Either way, it's not what I wanted! I had it done on April 30 and have to live with it until May 28.....it sucks.

So now my BB is calling me a liar! I put in my weight this morning and it recalculated and said "based on measurement" my average calorie intake is 1498 instead of "based on food log" average of 1067. I dont eat anything that isnt weighed or measured. I cook from scratch, mostly on the grill with no oil or fats. If I measure and weigh how could I be off 40%?

Hey everyone,

thought I would pop in this thread and join in. I am all about being positive. I am so excited about being banded and my loss even though I have tons more to lose.

Yesterday i started a blog to get some of my feelings, fears, and triumphs out there since my husband has no idea what it means to deal with weight.

So come follow me to keep me honest in my journey.

Banded Up

Congratulations Leigha - I remember when I took my "Learn to Run" clinic, and how scared I was (had never ran even a few steps in my life) But yes, where you have to run 3 minutes without stopping by week 3. The ultimate goal was a 5k run and it was one of the best things I ever did. I was so proud. So good luck to you, you'll love it and it will become addictive.

Well I had my very first NSV today. I haven't worn my wedding and anniversary rings in well, well over a year. And I just couldn't bring myself to have them resized. And today they fit. I was thrilled!! Might even get a manicure to Celebrate.< /p>

Hope everyones week started well, and Bobbie how was day 1 on the new job. I'm so excited for you!!!!

Katie

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
