You guys are too funny! lol

Katie-welcome & congrats on your surgery!

I haven't been on here much because thanks to KAREN, I bought Just Dance and am now thoroughly addicted (and pretty darn sore I might add ). I played for over 3 hours yesterday . My shoudlers and abs and legs and everything is feeling it today. I even talked the hubster into playing for about an hour (he is the competitive type so it wasn't too hard). I've been debating the BB. Just not sure if I want to invest that much yet. On a good note, I KILLED my Mother's Day Challenge!!

I have eyed the BB enough--I just ordered one to Leigha, Betsy, and Karen. I really need an accurate account of my workouts! BTW Betsy--how many times would you have to chew that "filet?"

Having pain in my abdomen all day--only got relief from Darvocet, gas medicine, and a pepcid--not sure which one did the trick. What is this pain? Feel like cramps. Fyi--I took milk of magnesia Friday, so I pretty "empty" but I took the maxium dose--too much?

Happy Mother's Day to each of you!

See Karen its all your fault, you made Stacie buy Just dance and you made Shammah buy a body bugg! I cant wait for everyone to get theirs.

Well I made it through Mothers day without eating too much. I got up and ran my C25K and then walked an extra 30 because I knew what was going to happen once my company got there. My SIL brought chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels and I resisted both! But I gave the wine and cheese hell.

But I still kept my BB calorie burned/ eaten balance like I should have. (Hopefully, I had to guess on the cheese because I didn't weigh it or count how many pieces I had, next time I will make me a separate plate and keep better track.) Oh well its a learning process.

I rode my bike to work today and I plan on riding home if the weather holds out but since I spend so much time at my desk, I think I will have to go and walk on the treadmill for 30 before I go home.

Have a good week everyone!

I have a question for my friends in the medical field, for the last 3 days after I work out I smell ammonia. But I cant figure out could it be my clothes, or maybe the body bugg band or can your body emit ammonia after a workout or maybe it is all in my head/nose?

Hm. Certain issues with Protein metabolism can cause an ammonia-like odor. It's something I'd want to run past the doctor. Chances are, it's just one of those things (likely related to being less-hydrated after exercise), but your doctor will likely want to do a blood test or three.

Well, I've gone out and bought, not a BB, but a Wii and Wii Fit and Just Dance and a couple of other discs. Maybe I'm transferring my food addiction to a shopping addiction! Anyhow, I work out for about an hour, plus walk fast 2-3 miles a day. A gym membership will come after I've recovered from surgery (start my pre-op diet tomorrow!)

Congratulations Anne! I know how excited you must be.

I am almost at 1 week post surgery and other than being a lot more tired than usual, I feel really good.

Betsy - you had mentioned in one of your other posts that you were going to try the Hot Yoga. Have you had a chance yet? I've practiced hot yoga for about 7 years and LOVE it. Interested in hearing your thoughts.

Katie

I'm so excited for you, Anne! Well, maybe not about the preop diet--but even that is a milestone :scared2:

What does your doctor have you doing for your preop?

Katie, no--I haven't started yoga yet. I think I will do it next week, when my daughter is home from school. Maybe I can drag her along.

I'm also thinking about Zumba, but am pretty sure I have nothing resembling the coordination required for that. I'm trying to convince myself that that doesn't matter---but so far, no dice. Still...I want to try it.....

Hm. Now I want a Wii. And Wii Fit. I see what you mean about transfer addictions, Anne!

LOL--honestly, sorry to project my shopping addiction on you LOL

In the last few days, I've purchased the BB, the display and some reeeeeally nice Nike Shox to keep up with my crazy workouts! I seriously have a problem! I convinced a coworker last week to buy an iPad (which she ended up doing over the weekend LOL)! So, ladies, if you're looking to justify any purchase, just give your old buddy Karen a shout ;-)!

Anne--good for you for treating yourself! I LOVE Just Dance. The only thing is, I'd love for there to be some way to open new songs or something. I heard a great rumor they are developing a new one. I hope so because I am hopelessly addicted (and so are my kids)!!

Stacie---it IS addictive isn't it?!? You don't even realize you're burning calories because of how much fun you're having. It's fun watching my kids dance to New Kids on the Block LOL

Shamma--woohoo! I am excited about my Bugg too! It just came today, so it's all set up and almost fully charged. The display is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, but I am going to start using this sucker right away!

Betsy--Wii is just awesome (here I go with my shopping addiction transference LOL). Just Dance is my favorite. I bought the Wii Fit, but with everything else I've been doing, I haven't even tried that yet LOL

Leigha--that is really weird about the ammonia smell. Is it still as strong? That is soooo strange. So, how addicted are you to the BB? I am sure I am really going to be obsessed myself. Can't WAIT to use it, I'm just not sure when the best time to start would be (when I go to bed tonight or when I wake up in the morning).

Katie--welcome and congrats on your surgery! We're happy to have you!

Cocoa--how are you feeling? I think I am caught up, and I don't remember seeing an update from you for a little while.

Bobbie--I will check FB later, but wondering how the interview went last week. Deets!! I hope you are enjoying the scrapbooking retreat!

How was everyone's Mother's Day? I got hubby to treat me to P90X, so that was my big gift. Of course, I decided to order and do Power 90 first to work my way up to the P90 based on a ton of recommendations, so I am going to have some variety in my workouts to say the least.....

Holy crap! I actually just MADE money selling back the freaking BB and display I initially bought off eBay! I paid $176 for both and they just sold for $197! Yeah! Amy--thanks for the coupon codes so I could get a new one WITH the 6 month membership for what it would've cost to add the membership to the used one!!

Hi Everyone,

I've been sort-of hiding out for a while. Sorry about that. Been reading, but not really posting. I haven't been feeling the best...but not because of the band.

Happy to see everyone is doing well!! :crying:

Anne--Yay on the pre-op!

Well, y'all know I was very sick last month. This seemed to be improving on the back side, although my blood pressure has still been low, around 90/60.

When I was on my way to DC last week, the diarrhea started up again, ON THE AIRPLANE. Ugh! The first culture they were SUPPOSED to be doing from the day I went to urgent care last month wasn't run for some reason. After I'd been on the meds a few days, they ran it again, and it was negative. So, they have no idea if what caused it was actually a c.diff. infection or not.

So, I had problems all last week in DC, things are calming down now, BP is still low. I saw my PCP today for a follow-up. He referred me to a GI doc. He thinks a colonoscopy is in my very near future...oh yay!

Also, today I am having a Holter Monitor run, which is a 24 hour heart monitor, to try to figure out why I have been trying to pass-out over the past months. So, I am standing here at my kitchen counter, since when I tried to pass out, I had been standing for 30 minutes or so before my BP dropped suddenly. Of course, nada so far!

So, basically, I am a mess! :) Sheesh!

Doc thinks the passing out is something to do with the weight loss, he says he sees it in his weight loss patients. Seems some of us have problems maintaining pressure while standing....

As to the other issue. The Big D...he says he thinks one of 3 things. Still getting over c.diff. if that is what it was. Auto-immune problems, which run in my family, but I am rather old for it to present now. Or irritable bowel sydrome. Yippee.

A 4th unlikely thought he had was an allergic reaction to something. The only thing I can think of is the Protein shakes I use. But I don't use them daily. And did not use them at all when I was REALLY sick.

But I am going to eliminate them for a time and see if it makes a difference. I didn't even think of them while we were talking.

I did have a great time in DC though, all the other stuff aside. I went a day early and really enjoyed the museums.

I tried to find a way to steal the Hope Diamond, but was out of luck. I spent 3 hours in the American History Museum after the Natural History Museum. I did more walking than ever.

I also did a lot of shopping.

Karen, I am right there with ya on the shopping addiction! Oh yeah!!!

I now want an iPad since my friend got one...actually they got his and hers, but they are all sold out here, I am on the wait list.

We are leaving for Sedona tomorrow. I was hoping to have it by then. But doesn't look like it will happen. Wah. We are meeting my sister and her husband, they are driving from Florida. Can't wait!!

Yay! Well, ok, been on my feet for over an hour and I am still upright...it figures!

Denise, oh, no! I'm so sorry you're still feeling gross. I hope they get to the bottom of it very soon. That kind of illness is so draining.

Enjoy your trip to Sedona!

 Well, glad I could twist your arm, Denise LOL! My friend bought hers into work today and I fell in love with it! Do I need it? NO. Am I going to (eventually) get it? HELL YES!!! I am in need of replacing my 2 Mexapixel digital camera first. It's been 8 great years, but I think it's time. I am going to treat myself when I get my money from the insurance company for getting my mammogram stuff taken care of. I made a HUGE mistake on my finances, so most of it is replacing $$$ I forgot to allocate to bills (imagine that LOL), but I should have enough to treat myself to a new camera.

I did purchase the pink armband for my BB today. I don't know why I didn't just order the pink one. I was so thrilled to be ordering one that the color was the furthest thing from my mind. I did also find a great site to jazz it up a little bit too: BodyMedia Skins

Okay so that is my shopping plug for the day...under $20 spent, so I didn't do too bad (oh, there was the beginner pilates DVD I just got off Amazon too for $8, but I swear that's it LOL)

I did pretty well with my first day with my BB. I burned 2428 calories and took in 1441 for a deficit of 987 (should've been 1000, but I'm upping my freaking exercise tonight). I actually changed my profile to target a 1250 deficit, so hopefully I'll lose 2 to 2.5 lbs per week. I am SERIOUS about getting this last bit of weight off :smile2:

Hope you are all doing well, my friends! Denise, I'll look for an update from you soon!! I am praying for some good news!!!!

Betsy, did you get your BB yet?

Leigha--is yours working for you? I mean from a get the scale to start moving again standpoint?

Amy--saw your post about your display. Mine came in yesterday and I started using it right away, but I haven't had this issue yet. Praying I don't. Did you try calling their 800 number?

Anne--how's the pre-op diet going?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
