Kicking Plateau's

Recommended Posts

Hello,,,

I am 7 and 1/2 weeks post op. I initially lost 16 pounds in the first 4 weeks. Then I went for a fill and I started really going to the gym atleast 3-5 times a week and all the weight lost stopped dramatically. What does everyone do to get through these plateaus, my calories are under 1200-always and I get my 64 oz of Water and my 60 grams of Protein everyday. Any suggestions would be really appreciated

Keep in mind that if you are going to the gym and working hard, you may be gaining a little muscle and muscle weighs more than fat so you could be losing fat without realizing it....

If your calories drop too low, you could be forcing your body to go into starvation mode and hoarding the fat... Make sure you are getting in the protein, then veggies and or fruits then the least amount with your side dishes (Starches etc.)... This week I've added a low sodium V-8 each day to make sure I am getting enough vegetables...

Track EVRYTHING you eat. I recently joined living strong/daily plate and now track all of my calories... Every single bite... You'd be surprised how you think your only eating 1200 calories but it turns out to be 1500+ when you remember you had a bite of this or a nibble of that or coffee creamer here and gravy or sauce there etc... I had three small bites of Tres Leche Cake yesterday and even tracked that... At daily plate you can find just about every food in the world listed and broken down...

I was plateaued for three weeks and just got my 3rd fill this week and already see and feel a difference... The scale move downward for the first time in what seems like AGES!!!

Good Luck..... We're here to help support you....

I'm pretty much in the same boat here. Was banded 01/15. I dropped about 10 pounds post-op right away but have struggled since. And I know it is tough to hear the "muscle weighs more than fat." Because just like you, I am working out and want the weight to come off even faster! So I understand. BUT it is true. You also need to make sure that you are eating enough. I stay at 1200 as my goal also. HOWEVER, If I burned 200 calories working out then I will eat 1400 that day. I use Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com. It will log your food and you exercise. I noticed that when I was not allotting more calories for myself when I hit the gym that my weight loss stopped. Once I began eating more to make up for that, the weight came off again. You need to make sure you aren't putting yourself in starvation mode.

Also, have you had a fill yet?? I haven't, but am planning my first one for the beginning of April. I know it's a ways away but I'm self-pay so I need to save up for it!

Your weight loss would naturally slow from the first weeks when you were on liquids and near liquids. It seems like you are doing very well. The most proven way of breaking a plateau is to more strictly limit carbs. I've found that my losses are continuing but in fits and starts now instead of steadily. I am about as far out as you are. Also try varying your calories day to day (a little) and see what happens.

Same here....went in for my third fill today. For the first time in my life my doctor told me I am not eating enough! Sounds crazy huh? They told me I am not getting enough carbs. I am also working out 4 times a wk. Hope to have more weight loss at next visit in 4 wks. I got a 2cc fill today.

thanks everyone for the comments and support it is the difference between success and failure for me. I have had one fill so far, i had a fill on 2/4 i am up to 5cc's. My MD tried to give me 2 cc's but I was wayyyy to tight so he took out one so I could drink Water.

So with all your advice I picked up a pair of pants that I was not able to button last week,,, now mind you my weight has not changed one bit.... but I was able to button the pants today.... So I guess I am loosing inches... Thanks so much for everyone's support..

I will keep up the good fight for another day...LOL Happy weekend everyone

Good for you! I find how clothes fit really tells me how I am doing, more than the scale. Also, I take a picture of myself once a month, in my bathing suit. I am always surprised at how much I shrunk!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
