I have my date...

Recommended Posts

Well I have a date 24th February ...

:thumbup:9 DAYS !!!!!! I could have said no thats too soon but figured after talking to both dietitian and surgeon it was the best way for me to go , even though I am still scared:ohmy: I know I can`t loose the weight without this step I have tried and tried for 20 plus years and have been thinking along these lines for at least 2yrs.. Its now or never, so Optifast for me from tomorrow and I must try to be possitive......

Good night off to read all my notes....

I also got a GREAT compliment from the doctor , he said he wouldn`t have guessed I was in my 60`s... I said thats because my fat has pushed out my wrinkles when I loose weight I`ll probably look like a prune... :hurray: he had a laugh...(I hope I don`t ....end up looking like a prune)

Well today is my first day on the Optifast so I`ll let you know in a few days how I am coping ..The doctor wasn`t concerned that I would only have 9 days to do the pre op diet as he said I wsn`t that big ..I laughed and said yeah !!! but he said compared with some he has operated on 200Kilos + and they are doing fine ....

Good Luck with your appointment , I felt better after mine , but the nerves started up again when I got home...

Will be booking in to the hospital tomorrow and seeing the anethesiologist Friday .....

I`ll keep you posted on how I am going.....

Saw the anethesist , I checked out fine ,he told me I can compare the surgery (pain) to having my Gall Bladder out so I am not worried too much about that now (as I was fine after that proceedure, so I hope he is right)..

He was nice a solid big (Not fat) man and he said he considered having the band while ago himself ,but has lost his weight , he said I will be happy with the results and will wonder why I didn`t get it sooner...it will probably reduce my BP and my arthiritis will be better with less weight (which I knew BUT it was nice to hear someone say he thinks I am making the right decission)...

Lets hope all runs smooth and I don`t have any of the bad things that can happen go wrong...

Still coping with the Optifast diet , can`t say I`m not hungry but I am coping ....

Its always nice when someone backs up your decision to do something major! I found the Optifast - although annoying at times and also hungry at times, the easiest of diets to do, because I KNOW why im doing it... and that there is light at the end of the tunnell... good luck  only a few days now!!

I am Tired and I am so hungry ...No way will I eat but I feel so tired ...I just think sleeping is a way to stop me thinking of being hungry.....

I am only on day 5 and only have to last till Wednesday for my Op. so I am luckier than a lot who are on the Optifast for weeks...I guess I will really be hungry when I have the op with liquids for the first week or two ...Oh well!! I`ll just think of those Kilos coming off ..I feel thinner but won`t weigh myself daily as I get dissapointed if the scales don`t move .....when I do weigh myself I will sure be updating my ticker line so you will all know....... icon_e_wink.gif

I hope everyone is going well with their change whether its pre Op or Post Op..............

Have a Great Weekend.....

Thankyou friend...

I am just home today ,was Banded 9.30am 24th (Wednesday) ..No shoulder tip pain no problems drinking just a sore tummy, home this afternoon (25th) feel tired and have slept most of the time , guess as the soreness wears off I will feel even better ..not hungry at all had some strained Soup for dinner 8pm and could barely get through it (200mils), I guess as the swelling go`s down I will feel more hungry but so far nothing that anyone eats here bothers me one bit....

Haven`t weighed myself yet so not sure if I have lost anything but with just water/juice and a little soup today I am guessing I will have lost a little something from before the surgery..

Must go more sleep needed just got up to take some liquid panadol my tummy is a wee bit sore.....:smile2:

Yes, I slept A LOT! I went from my bed, to the couch, to the toilet, to the couch, to the bed… did a lot of nothing for a week! And it took a good 5 or 6 days before I got any hunger back, at first I didn’t know if I was hungry or full!

Sounds like you got out relatively unscathed!

I tried not to weigh myself too much, once a week seems to be a good frequency… especially this close to being banded. I was so worried about gaining weight in the “bandster hell” period, so far I have managed to maintain the 15kg but still have until the 4th before my first fill.

I hope everything goes good for recovery, let me know if you have any questions I may be able to help J

Take care!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
