oK I'll start at the beginning I had my surgery in Aug. the day after my mouth

and throat felt like a coating was building on my gums. Well this never got better finally went to pcp she said it was thrush. Well I took 3 different meds

over the last 6 weeks and this gross stuff never went away. Finally I got fed

up throat and mouth so sore I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a bacterial infection! This had to have come from the surgery it is just to coincidental that it started within hours after my surgery. Now I am on antibiotics and they are a large capsule. I opened them and put the powder

in juice and once in ice cream to hide the taste. OMG they are absolutely

digusting making my gag and almost vomit. Can I take a capsule normally

I dont think I can keep doing the open thing. I asked pharmacy about a liquid

she said that is awful and has a very foul odor and most people gag and can't

tolerate it. Please help I just want to swallow the capsule but I'm terrified of

it getting stuck. Any suggestions please I'm desperate. Lisa.

Wow Lisa, yucky for you! I'm so sorry!

You can always try it once. A capsule may not be bad...just take it with milk or something thicker and slipperier (is that a word?) than Water. Even Gatorade goes down a little slicker than plain Water. Get that cap past the band, and drink a ton of water to keep your pouch washed through in case it stays up top till it melts. Wash wash wash it through.

It's worth a try. Just know the risks...you could get stuck, PB it, have it come back up and the taste (ugh!) and it micht be a problem with your band...I dunno, you are 2+ months out from surgery. If your restriction is not very good and you think it will pass, it's certainly worth a try?

If it turns out badly, you know what NOT to do! Good Luck. Go get 'em!

I was taking a fairly large capsule before my first fill and I didn't have trouble getting it through. My doctor said that capsules dissolve fairly quickly. Maybe try taking it with tea or coffee to get it dissolving...

Good luck! That's the worst... :)

Yeah, after my surgery I had to take several large pills for various reasons, and they all went down ok. Definitely Hot Drinks to help them dissolve, and drink lots of fluids to help it go down. But don't gulp too much so you end up puking! I think it will be ok. Sorry that the beginning of your Banded life started out so rocky, but once this is taken care of, you'll be alright. Good luck and God bless!

I don't think that the surgery is a direct cause of the thrush. It is more likely that having the surgery compromised your immune system and allowed the thrush to take hold.

when I have to take capsles I do so with a hot beverage and I sit with the dang capsule in my mouth until it feels like it's practically ready to disolve. Then like Kathy said, I wash it down with more beveage (the hot tea or cold water).

thanks for all the good advice I think I will try it and see how it goes

I can't seem to get rid of the awful taste after I take the powder I'll

try anything once. I just want to feel better so I can concentrate on

my weight loss. Thanks again all.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
