Sorry, but I think I'm going to need one and want to know your expert opinion.

Many, many thanks!:smile2:

Hi Susan! I don't take laxitives, but I have needed to up my Fiber in take to make things move a bit! I found that Crystal Light makes a Rasberry Peach flavor that has added fiber. It tastes good, it's not thick at all, and it's only 10 calories with 3g of fiber. I drink 1 or 2 a day.

I would try upping your fiber considerably. We as busy humans rarely get enough. Most bandsters tend to stray away from carbs altogether and this really doesn't help the situation at all.

I eat Fiber choice chews (2) every night and I really like to even eat a bowl of Fiber one Cereal after my workout too. I'm not as regular as I once was but since I've been keeping up with my fiber I notice its alot better situation.

Good luck!

My personal favorite is Dulcolax Overnight. Take one at night, then get movin' in the morning! Hahaha! Hope everything goes okay!

I usually use Laci Le beau Super Dieters tea, but its kinda spendy at 15 bucks for a box of 90 tea bags so I found some Slimming tea which is practically the same at the one dollar store. Like 15 or 20 tea bags... It's not too tasty so you need to add lemon...

I use Benefiber (no flavor) I add a teaspoon to my coffee in the morning and one to my drink in the evening whatever I have. Mixes up and you don't even know its there. Its fixed any problem I've had.

Hoping to have enough fiber in my diet to stop it eventually. But right now I'm just starting mushies and I'm only getting in about 550 calories / day

I apologize in advance for the contents of this post.

My Dr recommends Benefiber and I have tried that and Miralax since being banded. I have also used colace, and almost every other laxative on the market at one time or the other.

I have a history of Constipation way back to when I was a baby. I can still remember the molasses enemas my mom used to have to give me when I was young, around 3-5 I think.

I buy citrate of magnesium and drink about 1/4 bottle once a week and that helps alot. Most people would be in the bathroom for hours after that, but I just get a normal BM instead of 3 tiny rocks that I normally get. It is the worst tasting stuff ever invented and my stomach knots just writing this but it is what I have to do.

PS, I drink at least 64 oz of Water with crystal light every day (I hate plain water it makes me want to vomit) and eat a high fiber Cereal every morning.

I am recently banded so I am a newbie here, but what about prune juice? Has anyone tried it?

I haven't needed to... yet, but my mother in law swears by it!!

I use Dulcolax...two tablets and within 6 hours...voila! I like it because there's no stomach cramping or other side effects that I got with some of the others. I'm happy to say that I haven't had to use anything since 2 months postop. Guess that means I'm finally getting enough Water in.

I have used the stimulant laxatives for several yrs. 2 every night. Doctors think that when I was on diet after diet after diet for 10 yrs, I screwed up my "system". I was diagnosed with IBS about 4 yrs ago also because of this screw up.

I drink a ton of Water daily, well over min amount of fiber daily and i love veggies. Nothing moves me. Eating healthy has always had the opposite effect on me. Let me eat junk and fast food, and i live in the potty:)

Hi,

Of all things to have my first post about! I think one of the best kept secrets about this subject is Kleritea. It's a wonderful tea you drink before bedtime and helps with sleep too. For short term use only but you will go the next day and it's very gentle. You can go to Best Colon Cleanse and Cleansing Detox Programs to get it. I'm having my lapband surgery next week on Feb 4 and got a bag because I've been reading about this issue happening after surgery. I plan to be prepared for anything after reading everyones posts!

Good luck!

I can guarantee being in a situation where I dont want to do number two's, lol, like when there's four people waiting to use the toilet after me at work, will get my bowels working.

Other than that, a high fibre diet less heavy on the Protein and more focussed on fruit and veg is what keeps me regular and if I do need a bit of help, like sometimes with a band you dont go regularly because you just dont eat much, a couple of prunes a day does the trick.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
