Rollercoaster rides and the band??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I went to an amusement park in October and rode a rollercoaster and a zero gravity ride that shot you up 10 stories and then let you fall until you reached the very bottom then zoomed you back up again until the only thing holding you in your seat was the shoulder harness, believe me you were not even touching the seat as you reached the top only to fall back down 10 stories again. OK great fun, really enjoyed being able to sit in the seat and ride the rides with my husband and kids.

What I am wondering is if that is why the tubing disconnected from the port on my band. When I went to the doctor for my 3rd fill in November I found out I had a major leak. Had it repaired two days ago and hopefully will be back on track!!

Has anyone else noticed any problems after riding amusement rides or are there warnings out there not to? Is it just a coincidence that my port and tube became disconnected?

I didn’t put the two together until after surgery when we found out for sure where the leak was coming from. My husband said I wonder if it was the rollercoaster because the bar hit right where my port is located and the ride really threw you around.

Anyone have any ideas??

OMG! You are a brave one. I love roller coasters but that sounds insane! I have never heard of any warnings to avoid amusement park rides with the band. How did you know you had a leak? What were your syptoms?

I had no restriction about 2 weeks after my 2nd fill in October which coincides with the trip to the amusement park. Up until then I thought I was at my sweet spot.

Made an appointment to get a fill the first part of November and when my doctor gave the fill he tried to withdrawal Fluid from the band and there wasn’t any. So he put 4cc in and was only able to withdrawal 2ccs, repeated the same thing over again with the same results so we knew I had a leak that was leaking at least 2ccs in a matter of 60 seconds or so.

I have had no restriction since mid October! He repaired the connection between tube and port Tuesday 1-12. Needless to say I don’t want to have this happen again.

The Doctor said that it wasn’t anything that I did that made it happen but he doesn’t know about the amusement rides either. Guess I will ask when I go in 2 weeks.

Heck, I went on 16 drop zip line in the middle of the jungle in Roatan just about 6 weeks after my surgery and no problems. I think it was probably just a coincidence.

Wow ~ now that sounds like fun!

I went to the amusement park and rode every roller coaster I could find. No problems what so ever!

I must admit, as I stood on top of the giant drop at Dreamworld in Queensland, that thougth crossed my mind. I have no problems as a result, but I dont think its terribly far fetched either.

However, I now get sick on rides, sea sick, car sick, things I never ever suffered before, since I was banded. Sea sick particularly. I get nauseous really easily, so if I never go on a ride again, i couldnt care less.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
