Thinking of cancelling tomorrow's sx

Recommended Posts

I am having real issues with going through with tomorrow's surgery. I'm scared of the anesthesia, the incision pain, and the gas pain. Also scared of stories of throwing up, nausea and food getting stuck. Not sure I can go through with this. Thoughts?

Well.. you have to do what you think is best for you... but lets ask a couple of questions:

Anesthesia - sure there are rare cases where things go wrong and no amount of prep could change that.. so I understand your concerns about that one.

Incision pain/ gas pain - they are short terms pains whose long term benefits more then about way a few days (maybe a week at best) of pain.

So at the end it seems like a decision - do nothing and wait for the effects of being Overweight to take over - heart attack, HPB, and other health issues. OR take the risk with anesthesia.

The fact is for those of us that were/are fat - every day has its risks given our weight.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

I too was also terrified of surgery, especially the night before but when I realized that being obese was going to kill me one way or another I realized this was my "chance" to not only be healthy but happy. I have to say, I thought I was happy, I thought I was a "healthy" obese person, but honestly I was neither. I am very happy as a matter of fact I am ecstatic now. I would do it again in a heartbeat and am now sitting here below goal, post plastic surgery, loving my life sooooo much!

I wish you luck and pray you make the right decision for you. Take a look at my pics and see where I came from and where I am now. Please look at my face.. you can see how ecstatic I am now.

I was afraid of all of those things too. But ultimately, none of them turned out to be a big deal at all. I am very glad that I went forward with my surgery. This past year has been wonderful, and I'm finally done with feeling terrible about myself every day because of my weight.

I just posted a before/present comparison shot on my blog. Why not take a look? (Link below.) It's amazing to me how far I've been able to come with my band, and honestly, it hasn't been that hard.

Best wishes for your success,

Catherine

My thought? DON'T!

I had surgery three days ago - and, to be honest, life hasn't been that painful! Everything was smooth as silk in the hospital, I've had no nausea, little pain (both gas and incision), and have been able to run errands and clean my house without problem...of course, I AM gentle and I make sure I'm taking naps and rest time to take care of myself! With only having lost 12 pounds so far, of a very long road ahead, I'd say this was the best decision of my life.

The posts you see about gas and incision pain, horror stories, etc...of course, they're true. People use this site to ask question to people who have "been there" and to seek out advice. How many threads do you see, though, about the people who are doing GREAT, need no help, and are loving their lives? Not many...lol. Truth is, when we feel great, we don't often "need" to post about it.

I've had two very dear friends of mine have this same surgery - I never heard them complain of this post-op stuff, all I've ever heard are the millions of positives they've gained from doing it. GO FOR IT! You'll only regret not doing it.

Here's hoping also that you went through with it. I am pre band and can tell you I have read so many posts on here of others in the same boat as you-scared Then after the posts they come on here and tell about how it went for them and they'd do it again anyday.

It's normal to be scared. I was terrified when I walked into the operating room but took a deep breath and was fine. It really wasn't a big deal and 17 days out...I feel fantastic....minimal discomfort..and eating well, don't feel like I have a foreign device in my stomach....no more gas pain, can drink Water freely....and am feeling full after eating my meals.

Hoping you went for it!! :smile2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
