Hello, I am Laura from Deland, FL. I am starting my 3 week liquid diet on 1/6/10. I am being banded on 1/27/10. This is so crazy...I still cant believe that I am doing this. I am totally excited about it, but scared...not about the surgery itself, but leaving large uncontrolled portions behind. I love food, but its about time I love myself more!:rolleyes2:

Hey Laura. I'm Barbara in Georgia and I understand completely what you're saying . . . I have had such mixed emotions and 99% of it isn't about the surgery but about the food. I've had Portion Control problems even with the healthy stuff. I've used it to medicate myself for so many years, plus with the thinking, "well, what does it really matter?" Well, now I've reached the health issues as opposed to just looking better, and decided that whatever I have to do, I will. This is a tool that I'm looking forward to getting, which will be January 12; I'm on the liquid diet now. After surgery, when I'm on regular food, I will choose quality over quantity and know the band will provide me that ability. Good luck to you and keep posting here so we'll know how you're going. :)

I know how you feel. I am in the process of getting the lap band, but it still makes me nervous. I'm not worried about the surgery, but about the huge lifestyle change. I think it will be worth it in the end. :rolleyes2:

Hi Laura,

I am starting my 2 week preop liquid diet on Jan 6 as well. My surgery date is the 21st. It seems as though most everyone on this site had the exact same feelings/concerns as you and I. It does help to have others going through the same things cause when they say you can do it they know you can becasue they did! I have to be on the liquid diet for 2 weeks post op as well, but it's just 4 weeks out of the rest of my life...I can do it.

Good luck with your journey!

I am at the same stage you are. I should find out my surgery date on 1/25/10. I love food so much it is like my best friend! I hate to think that I cant gobble something really yummy down :0( But I know I need to get in control of myself and just do it! I have 3 kids and a husband that I want to live a long happy life with.

I know this part is hard, but just think of how happy we will be when we are loosing weight and feeling good??? I think that will take presidency over any food!

Good Luck to you and if you ever need to talk, please send me a message!

Melissa

Hi, Laura! This was one of my big concerns before I got banded as well. I was worried that I'd feel like I was in some kind of stomach-prison and never be able to eat what I wanted. But, in retrospect, that wasn't such a big deal.

Truth is that if you don't have a fill, you can eat pretty much how you did before you were banded. That's what creates the time period called "Bandster Hell" (do a word search on this site if you aren't familiar with this term). Anyway, if you hate being banded (which you won't), you can just get your band un-filled and you will be able to eat the way you have been doing.

That said, with all of the great results you are going to see, and with how little you feel hungry, you probably won't want to go off the rails like that. But, I did find it reassuring to know that I had that option.

Best wishes for your success! I'm about 15 months out -- feel free to check out my blog if you're curious about how being banded has worked for me!

Best wishes,

Catherine

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I went to see the MD yesterday for my official pre band weigh in. I am getting really excited now. I did buy a container of Bariatric Advantage drink mix for my liquid diet that starts tomorrow. I am excited about losing this weight. I looked at my before pictures that my husband took this weekend and that is a "huge"...pardon the pun, encouragement! :smile2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
