BANDED 12-24 and can't sleep

Recommended Posts

Did this happen to anyone? I have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. Ive tried putting pillows around me and everything..the best sleep I get is in th garden tub,,and thats 2 hrs top....Then another question I have is when I sleep on my back its like I have to catch my breathor something like that it just happens once when I barely roll over....any suggestions as to why I can't sleep or my breathing pattern messes up?

P.S. It doesnt help that my tummy rumbles allll night!

I was banded 12/23 I had very little sleep for

2 days i had to sleep sitting up I used a airplane

u pillow to hold my head which helped a lot

could not lay down till the 4 th day post

so you sound normal you get through it

anything cold shuts my band down tight

hot Soup and warm Atkins shakes seem to work the

best wait till your first slime that is something

you won't forget

goodluck

I didn't lay down til my 4th night post-op. I slept in a recliner sitting up to help with the gas and ease of getting up and preventing the breathing issues you're talking about as well.

Do you have a CPAP machine? If so be sure to use it, if not I would suggest sleeping on your side or sleeping upright in a recliner. I don't know about you, but that lortab knocked me out cold the first day and half I was on it for pain.

After that my sleeping was spuratic but that's normal for me, so I don't have much advice on that.

I would try putting a heating pad on your tummy and sitting upright for a night or two.

Good luck!

I as well as all of you others struggled with staying asleep for the first few days. I was awake every 45 minutes or so. I did notice that sleeping in a recliner and drinking warm chamomile tea helped me sleep for longer periods of time. By the 3rd night I was so exhausted from moving around to get showered and from point A to B that I slept like a baby in bed. By the 6th day or so I was able to sleep on my side (opposite of wear the port is). Now I am 3 weeks post-op and can sleep in any position. Even on my tummy with little to no port pain. Hang in there for this too shall pass. May the new year bring you happiness, fortune, and a new you! ;)

I slept in my recliner for the first 3 weeks for the same reason. Eventually I was able to lay back in a bed and now I even sleep on my stomach. Hang in there.

I had the same problem i was banded on the 18th of december and it was so hard to sleep and sleep all night. I think maybe it was because of being uncomfortable and with the staples and everything . But sometimes I was comfortable and still couldn't sleep. I really don't know the reason why, but at least your not alone in it.

What is slime?

Ok, well if you were just banded, you shouldn't slime yet, because you aren't eating. BUT, slime is the excess saliva that builds up when you have something stuck. It is your body's way of trying to get the offending food up easily. It isn't usually painful, but not a walk in the park either. If you follow you eating rules, small bites, chew well, small portions and avoid certain foods, you MAY be able to avoid it. Usually, though, you slime a time or two before you know which foods don't agree with you and your band. For me, it is chicken that is dry. Other than that, I can eat most foods.

The first few days after surgery, I started out in bed, but had to move to the couch after about 3-4 hours, as I couldn't sleep on my back in bed. I'd have to prop myself up with pillows on the couch. Eventually, I was able to stay in bed, once I was able to sleep on my tummy.

Best recommendation is to make sure you take your pain meds before going to bed, to help relieve any pain.

I was banded on December 11th and have slept pretty good the whole time....but I always took my pain liquid right before bed...sometimes I woke up five hours later and took some more..when I ran out of medicine I started using tyenol liquid...This kept me from having a restless night..You will not believe how well you feel after two weeks...I dont have to take any pain relievers and feel good...Just hang in there and surround yourself with pillows..an ice PACK right before bed helped too...Hope this helps!

Are you taking pain meds??? If so, try switching to Tylenol PM instead.

When I take Vicoden I am too wired to sleep. I may fall asleep but I keep waking up.

What is slime?

Sliming is what happens when your food is stuck in your pouch you get an over-production of saliva and can't swallow it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
