One year post op
I've actually hit a bit of a stall, for the last 2 months or so, it seems I've been yo-yo-ing the same 5lbs., I'll go up a few lbs, then go down again, but I haven't gone below 218lbs. I decided to follow the diet I was given when I had to prep my body for surgery, I hope that helps P.S. You're spotter is very handsome lol

Pre-op surgeon appt is my next step to Gastric Bypass Surgery. Please if anyone can give me some advice on what you would do or wish you would have done to prepare for the actual surgery and the few weeks after I would so greatly appreciate it.
Just like Nervy, I also was really nervous about if I was making the right decision for myself, I had actually considered surgery 4 years ago but backed out about halfway. Once my health was in danger is when I had to considered it again. The days leading up to the surgery were so nerve wrecking that I was almost ready to throw in the towel again, but now but now a year out, I'm glad I took the leap. I won't say that it's easy, some days, you will miss being able to eat your favorite foods without any restrictions, but it helped that I had a great support team in my family, my mom prepped so much broth for me, and my brother became my gym buddy so that I wouldn't feel embarrassed to go on my own. I had to create and recreate a schedule to eat, drink and take my vitamins, to fit my lifestyle, but once I got it down, it almost feels second nature. Good luck, you got this!

4-Month Post Op Hair Loss
It sucks, I know, but it will get better, I ended up getting a brush for weak hair to help a little, I got the detangling UNbrush and a boar bristle brush, and while my hair was still coming out, it wasn't as much as with my regular brush. All hair types are different so I suggest researching the best type of brush for your hair type and going from there, good luck!

Food noise
For me, I ended up getting human sacrifices lol When I would have cravings, for lets say some chips, I would ask a coworker or friends "Hey I want some Hot Cheetos , if I buy a bag, would you eat the rest for me?" of course most people won't turn down free food, so I would buy my bag of chips, eat about 5 or 6 pieces and them immediately give up the bag for them to finish off for me This works for me because sometimes I just want a taste of something, and this is the best way I found where I can get my craving satisfied without breaking my diet. So it's a running joke at my job that I have human sacrifices 😅

I lost control for a moment...
UPDATE: I think I finally figured out what happened, I know it's was months ago, and I should have moved on already but I don't like to leave things unresolved Since surgery, when ever I eat, I always use a knife and fork now, to help keep all my bites small and to allow myself time between bites On the day of the incident, I did eat my chicken wings with a knife and fork, all good there, but the 2nd time around, I used my hands to pick up the wing, I'm pretty sure that's what did it, my body was so used to just use my hands to eat and drink at the same time that my old habit came back around I know that mulling over this for months probably wasn't the best use of my time, but now that I have an answer, I can finally put this event to rest and move on with my life.

Really craving sweets again
Thank you, I had an appointment with my dietitian today, she gave me a few options on how to curb the craving, but she also aid that maybe I should give in if it gets too hard, not eat a whole bag mind you, but she said if you can, get a small bar, break it in half and throw out one half immediately, she did say it's probably not the best advice but sometimes we have to honor those cravings, I think I'll see if dark chocolate can help first before I honor the milk chocolate craving BTW, you look amazing in your photo.

Really craving sweets again
For the last 2 weeks, I've really been craving sweets, most specifically chocolate, I seem to be ok during the day, when I just remind myself that I'm doing what I'm doing for me, but at night, the cravings COME FULL FORCE Depending on the hour, I may do a protein bar or drink, thinking that maybe any sweet flavor will satisfy me, but no, it doesn't fill the void I had worked out with my nutritionist, that a piece of candy once a a week was ok, and I was doing ok with it, something to look forward to, but honestly, I'm scared to eat a piece of candy right now I'm afraid that if I taste what I'm craving, I may loose a bit of control, how would you deal with this?

My new mantra
I think I had a breakthrough A few weeks ago, I had a very shitty night at my 2nd job, I was running late, machines where breaking down, at one point, my whole system crashed and I had to do my lab work manually, all in all, I was very frustrated when I finally got off around 11:30pm In my frustration I was like "Damn, I need a pick me up, I should stop by for a chicken sandwich and fries, I've eared it with the day I've been having, screw if it's past 9pm and I shouldn't eat this late" but then my own brain asked me a question: "That is what the old you would do, what is the new you going to do?" and I actually answered myself "The new me will take a deep breath and go home" And that's what I did, I got home around midnight, drank about half a bottle of my protein drink, took a shower and went to bed I'm only sharing this, because ever since then, when I feel like I want to eat because of frustration, anger, boredom, I just ask myself, "What is the new you going to do?" and somehow that is enough to pull me from my funk and make my health a priority again.

When did you start feeling cold?
Kind of a funny bone to pick, but how much weight had you lost before you started feeling cold? Per people who have had the surgery, some said that after loosing around 40-50lbs they started feeling cold, saying they would use light covering even in summer I was like "hell yeah!" because I have always run hot, even in winter, I don't need use sweaters/coats unless the temperature reaches the 40s, I was so looking forward to feeling cooler I'm down 80+lbs and I still feel hot, my office as the temp set at 71 degrees, and the 2 people who I share the office space with are all saying how cold they are while wrapped in a blanket, and yet you have me here with a desk fan because I still feel too warm 😆 So yeah, I kind of feel like I was cheated out of the most wanted experience of weight loss, I was so looking forward to not sweating in the summer and bundling up in cute sweaters in the winter, oh well 🤷

What is your strategy for getting in exercise
For me, it helped that I had a buddy to be accounted for, I didn't go to gym until I was 5 months out but I was walking with my brother almost daily, first it was a mile, then 1.5, then 2 until I had build the endurance to walk 3.5 miles My brother basically hyped me up to go walk with him, and aside from some sick days/rain, I was walking a lot Now I have a gym membership and I still use my brother as a motivator haha I do suggest getting a buddy to help you, if you have someone to answer to, you will be more motivated as to not disappoint them, even if it's only for 20mins at a time, any movement is better than no movement, you got this!

I lost control for a moment...
I do associate food as a social thing, so many connections can be made thru food, and since I got my surgery I have planned how and when to eat, especially going out to a restaurant or a house party, I felt comfortable with the guest list, and I was very open from the beginning on my surgery, my friend and coworkers know so I don't feel pressured to eat or drink anything to fit in the social setting That's why Saturdays episode was so odd to me, I thought I was doing everything right and then all of sudden to go back to how I just to eat made me scared For me, I didn't join any social setting for abut 2 months, I first wanted to go thru my stages of food and to gauge how much I can eat so that I could plan meals I hope that once you're ready to go out again, you don't have too much anxiety around it, for now, all I can say is take it a day at a time.

I lost control for a moment...
I'm currently speaking with a therapist but for different reasons that don't have to do with my surgery , so I will bring this up to them, if anything to at least just ease my mind, thank you for your words.

I lost control for a moment...
Please help me understand an episode I had on Saturday So my brother's birthday was on Thursday, and on Saturday we went out to to Dave and Busters to celebrate, since we were a small crowd we reserved a room and did the platters for food I stuck with bone-in chicken wings and water, only allowing myself 4 chips with guacamole dip The day was going great, we were going back and forth to play and mingle, the issue was about and hour in, IDK what happened, I was only eating chicken wings and then all of a sudden I started stuffing my mouth and taking swigs of soda at the same time, my body started protested, my nose started running and I started hiccupping (my signs to stop eating), but I didn't stop, I would bite a wing, chew twice, take sip of sprite and try to swallow it all in one go, I remember screaming in my head "WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?" and literally slapped myself to stop, I spat out what I had in my mouth in a napkin and rushed to the bathroom where I proceeded to throw up and cry it out for 20mins, I sent my brother a text telling him I wasn't feeling well and went home For the rest of the weekend I just did protein drinks, half as a reset and half as a punishment I really don't know what happened, I've gone out before and I always plan my menu before I do so that I don't overeat or eat wrong, but that day my brain just went nope and went back to my old mode It was truly freighting, and I'm afraid that it could happen again, that now I don't want to go out in 2 weeks for a friend bday dinner So has anyone ever had something like that happen to them? How did you bounce back?

What items are y'all buying for post-op?
My tips are, don't buy too much food just yet, you'll find that most of it will expire or go bad before you finish it all As for items, I recommend a wedge pillow, when I came out, I wasn't able to lay down so being propped up help me Loose tunic, even my loosest of shirt felt uncomfortable, a dress/muumuu was my go to for the first 2 weeks Lip balm, since you can't drink too much your lips will dry out, lip balm will help with the feeling of cracked lips I hope this helps, you got this!

Quick Food Hacks??
For me, I learned to carry around Quest protein bars or sugar free jerky sticks as a way to reach my protein intake when my days get too busy or I didn't have a chance to prep a meal for the week, it's not a gran thing but I hope this info helps you out.

What workouts would you recommend?
I understand, after my 1st session with the personal trainer, my arms and legs were sore for the next two days lo, but yes, I would appreciate some tips and your routine, please and thank you.
-
What workouts would you recommend?
Thank you to everyone who replied, I took your advice and got a personal trainer, I have a free session with him on Saturday but I was hoping to book him for a month or so, if only to get myself familiar with the machines and how to use them properly My hope is that once I'm more comfortable I can make my own work out routine that works with my schedule I know this will be a lot of hard work ad a lot of strong mental will, lets just hope my body doesn't shut down the 1st session 😅

What workouts would you recommend?
As a birthday gift to myself, I went a head and got myself a gym membership on Monday, and to make sure that I don't flake out on going, I paid a full year upfront, it was a pretty penny, but now it will be on me if I let my money go to waste Anyways, I have zero experience working out, aside from the treadmill I haven't really done anything else, what are some exercises or equipment that you would recommend as a beginner?

Silly question but…
Took me a hot minute to figure it out too, but it will be on the drop down menu from your user name, hope this helps.

My biggest goal met!!
Last year, I got diagnosed with sleep apnea, and was made to start using a CPAP machine to sleep, I really disliked using it and I ever got used to it, and because of that, I made the decision to do the weight loss surgery My surgery team said I should make short term goals to keep myself motivated on my new journey Right off the bat, my only goal was to get rid of the CPAP machine, nothing else mattered, but after a few follow up appointments, I managed to really think of what I wanted to have After some thought, my goal list grew: 1. Give up my CPAP machine 2. Buy and wear a bathrobe from Macy's 3. Hit 200lb minimum I'm happy to report that today, my 1st goal has been met, my sleep apnea is under control and when sleeping my oxygen levels don't go below 92, my doctor said that if I wanted to, I can stop sleeping with it, and I happily left it behind with him 1st goal down, 2 more to achieve, I can't wait!

Hitting my first stall?
I feel you on the going backwards thing, honestly, I'm at a point where I'm like, I should just start selling feet pics haha, kidding I will work on rewriting my budget and not buy as many protein drinks, the money for the drinks will be used for more solid pick, my friend has a Costco membership, and said she'd take me, I can buy some frozen foods in bulk to keep frozen for easy meals, I will see what recipes I can do and hopefully after a few weeks, I will be in a much better spot, thanks for the food ideas
