When did you start feeling cold?

Kind of a funny bone to pick, but how much weight had you lost before you started feeling cold?

Per people who have had the surgery, some said that after loosing around 40-50lbs they started feeling cold, saying they would use light covering even in summer

I was like "hell yeah!" because I have always run hot, even in winter, I don't need use sweaters/coats unless the temperature reaches the 40s, I was so looking forward to feeling cooler

I'm down 80+lbs and I still feel hot, my office as the temp set at 71 degrees, and the 2 people who I share the office space with are all saying how cold they are while wrapped in a blanket, and yet you have me here with a desk fan because I still feel too warm 😆

So yeah, I kind of feel like I was cheated out of the most wanted experience of weight loss, I was so looking forward to not sweating in the summer and bundling up in cute sweaters in the winter, oh well 🤷

  • if i remember correctly, i started feeling unreasonably cold around 1 month post op. and i think i was probably down 30-ish or so lbs since my 2 week pre-op diet (meaning i lost about 30-ish lbs in 6

  • I think it was around that 30/40lb mark too. I always felt colder than others regardless of my weight (except when I was having a hot flush 😉) and always had a wardrobe of overcoats but I became crazy

if i remember correctly, i started feeling unreasonably cold around 1 month post op. and i think i was probably down 30-ish or so lbs since my 2 week pre-op diet (meaning i lost about 30-ish lbs in 6 weeks).

this cold lasted for a couple years. i was always the only one wearing a sweater or a ridiculous number of layers or b*itching about how cold was wherever i went. the freezer aisle at the grocery store was my nemesis.

then it got a little better, in the sense i would finally actually feel too warm sometimes and have to actually TAKE OFF my sweater (gasp! lol). i think i still run colder than most around me..as i speak im wearing a t-shirt, hoodie and joggers and socks and moccasins while Mr. is only wearing a pair of shorts.

I think it was around that 30/40lb mark too. I always felt colder than others regardless of my weight (except when I was having a hot flush 😉) and always had a wardrobe of overcoats but I became crazy cold. And like @ms.sss the freezer & refrigerated sections at the grocery story became my nemesis. Still is as are cinemas, delis, restaurants, theatres, doctors’ offices, hospitals, …. many places. I keep a double knit long wrap coat (it’s like a blanket) in my car as well as a wool wrap. I have a number of cotton and light wool cardigans I often take with me in summer.

If you’ve started running hotter then most ist may take longer for you to start to feel cold and then you may only feel a little cooler not ice cold like some of us.

It was 102 degrees here yesterday and humid! So HOT! I had the air conditioner on at 80 but it was still too cold & I had a blanket on my lap. (Crazily it’s 66 today. I’m freezing & seriously considering putting a heater on.)

PS - Congrats on your weight loss so far.

I was freezing the day I exited the hospital. I was losing weight rapidly and just felt cold all the time, and this has been the case ever since!

  • 4 weeks later...
