  1. Must be dehydration. I hope you're doing better. Sending well wishes your way Tank!
  2. Some folks sayd GasX helps and others recommend walking it out of your system. I can't say I've had the gas pain...I have been bloated by it and walking helped with that but, I wasn't having pain. I hope it goes away for you soon.
  3. I don't get 64 ounces in but, my nutritionist says the fluids in my shakes, milk, popsicles etc all counts. I probably get about 50 in each day....for me its one of the hardest parts to do.
  4. Welcome Jess and congrats on surgery tomorrow. Everyone loses weight differently and at their own pace so try not to worry about it so much and concentrate on what your doctor/bariatric center has taught you. They'll supply you with the info you need when you are released from the hospital and let you know what you can and can't eat until your next visit. The best thing is to concentrate on the healing aspect of the surgery and getting your fluids & proteins in. Good luck tomorrow and let us know how you're doing
  5. Are you getting enough fluids in each day?If you are...how about.....where you live is it really hot and so the A/C is constantly running? A/Cs take humidity out of the air so that could be part of it as well.
  6. I think for me I went into this realizing that truly it's only ME that has to change how I'm eating. It's my journey not my husband's and not my son's. I knew they'd bring stuff into the house that I couldn't eat. Heck after surgery it takes quite a few weeks/months before we can have a full "healthy" menu. I sure do miss crunchy stuff because they were my downfall...and right now...I'm with Wps2, popcorn is a tough one. I love popcorn, must plain popcorn. It's healthy but, it's a no go for me right now and I know it. So when it's being eaten in the house it's difficult and man you can hear every single crunch and I swear the crunch noise is louder. LOL But...I have to remind myself that I chose this path my guys didn't. I guess it does help though that they are also very caring in that, they will ask me if there is something they can do for me or get me often and they make sure I'm ok. They don't think twice about having their popcorn, take out food etc but, they do need to eat. Again I just remind myself that I chose this and I'm doing this for me.....it will benefit them in the long run but, still this choice was for me and my own benefit first. Keep that in mind the next time your spouse or family is eating something you can't. Believe me it's hard certain days...especially if after the popcorn, some other snack is then picked up. Then I start thinking...My God...I used to do that and no wonder why I gained weight and then I'm proud of myself for taking this step. AS much as I'd like them eating healthier too, THEY lift the food to their mouths not me. I don't bring the stuff in so it's their choice. I love em anyway. Continue with your own journey, don't let the comments get to you...let it roll because when it's no longer funny to them, its not worth saying. Easier said then done sometimes I know....but you can do it. Half this losing weight battle is putting things in perspective for yourself and keeping positive. Let em have the ribs, popcorn, candy.....while you lose weight and get healthy, happy and more fit
  7. Way to go David! Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, loosin' weight dude with his pants on the ground. hee hee. Hmm thinking maybe some suspenders are needed until you buy yourself some new work pants? You don't want to be giving your patients heart flutters seeing your new butt!
  8. Oh it's definitely harder when the menu is limited. I'm looking forward to having options myself. Keep up the good work irshangel! You can do it!
  9. Heck, I didn't leave the house for a week when I got home. You have a bunch of healing to do and just that trip to the grocery store and if you carried groceries into the house...you probably burned more calories than you're taking in. Short walks is about it for a while, while you're healing. My doc didn't give permission for longer walks/exercise until 3 weeks out when she knew I was taking in enough protein and fluids.
  10. It is difficult to get that "chew" at 2 weeks out. I was only allowed liquids plus greek yogurt, scrambled egg whites or cottage cheese that you could actually chew to liquid form before swallowing. Not many food choice items during this stage. I'm now in Stage 4 where I can have solid Proteins but, still no carbs, fruit or veggies. Chewing chicken to liquid form takes some time for sure. I am allowed mash potatoes or mashed sweet potato but, only if I meet my Protein requirements for the day first. Thats my only carb allowed right now.
  11. It could be gas then but, the best bet would be to call your surgeon and let him/her know. I had to do that myself and found out I had an infection in my left side incision site. Not saying you have an infection but, what I'm saying it's it's always best to call your doc and give them a heads up. They'll have a better idea what it is that is causing you discomfort/pain. Good luck!
  12. It's more dependent on your insurance than anything. Give them a call and ask them if they have any "special" requirements before approving RNY surgery. Some insurance require 6 months of Medically followed weight loss, others 3 months. Some it doesn't matter but, they want to see co-mobidities etc, which you've already mentioned you have. You're insurance should be able to give you a hand with that though so you'll know for sure. Your bariatric center should also be able to help you since they are used to dealing with insurance companies they already know "most" of the requirements of the insurances out there. I say "most" mainly because each plan and have differences from the norm depending on employer or school etc. Good luck!
  13. Is the pain around the incision site? It's common for there to be pain in that site because they use it more to move the liver out of the way to reach the stomach and per my surgeon, they use that site for the stapling inside as well. It's used quite a bit and there is a lot of bruising in that area. That combined with the gas can make it tought.
  14. Wow that's terrible but, you know it's good that your bloodwork was checked. Best for you to be at the correct levels on all count so you can heal properly after the surgery.
  15. How far out are you from surgery?
  16. I too heard about the meat tenderizer.....mixed with a little water and sip it.You can ask the kitchen where you are staying if they have any and can help you with it?
  17. Good luck everyone and see you on the losing side Sending well wishes your way.
  18. depends on the time of day for me as well. In the morning it's as if I have to wake my stomach up so I have to be very careful how much I take in and how fast. As the afternoon comes around and I've eaten, I'm able to take a couple sips together of cold Water and then wait a minute and be able to take more. It's so tricky....yesterday I did that and then by mistake took a good size sip and could feel it in my esophogus for a short time. Had to wait for it to go down.
  19. If you're not tolerating clear liquids either that doesn't sound good. What about differences in temperature...warm vs cold fluids? Definitely call your bariatric center/nutritionist. They may have some tricks of the trade to help you. I know for me some things just aren't going to go down. I have to psych myself up to get a protein shake down. I can't tolerate scrambled eggs even after chewing well because I got sick on them a few days back. Just the smell of them turns me off. But you should be able to eat pureed foods by now.
  20. Hi Elizabeth, My surgery was 7/11 and I've lost about 20 pounds since my surgery (approx 5 weeks). I'm thrilled with the 20 pounds because I know without this surgery there is no way I would have lost 5 let alone 20. All the research I've done, Reading I've done, Websites I've visited have shown me that every person's journey is their own. BELIEVE ME I have to keep myself in check as well. It's so easy to compare journeys but, that only puts unnecessary pressure on ourselves. Sounds like you're eating right and exercising so it's going to come off...your body is adjusting right now but, the scale will move. As my surgeon said she's never seen this surgery not work if folks follow the rules. Heck ya, I think we all want the weight off NOW...but, it won't happen that way. It's a life long journey even after hitting your own goal. We will always be a work in progress even after hitting goal. Congrats on great weightloss! Celebrate it!
  21. Only lost 22? I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself! You've done fantastic 22 pounds girl...that's two 10 pound sacks of potatoes and 2 boxes of butter. think about that.....we're not even allowed to carry that much weight one month post op. Sometimes we have to put things in perspective in order to see it...so picture those items. Keep exercising and eating the proper amount of Protein and the scale will move. Our bodies can be stubborn at times and with less cals going in and more exercise happening, it could be holding onto the weight for a bit. We're all going to run into stalls but, for how long have you stalled? If its only been a few days or even 1 week...if so it will move. How often are you stepping on the scale? You've been through enough with the surgery and all......give yourself a break and try not to be so hard on yourself. BELIEVE ME I know it's easier said than done.....we all do a great job beating ourselves up (heck I'm better at it than any Ultimate Fighting Champion) but what we really need to do and love and accept ourselves. We made a great decision to get healthy and it's happening but, everyone has a different pace and our bodies definitely let us know it. It's going to come off, 22 pounds is fantastic for one month!
