The Band Vs. Vacation
I am happy you got a nice walking vacation. Maybe when TOM is gone your weight will go down. The only times I get stuck is when I eat too fast or too much. I do a lot of restaurant eating and I order properly, most of the time Did you and the hub enjoy Disney World? Was this your first time there? When my sons were younger we went 3 times in 5 years and I have not been back since, so it is about 25 or more years. Feel better.

banded finally
Congratulations!!!!!!!! I can't believe you went home the same day. Sometimes sucking on crushed ice is good, too. I liked the SF Popsicles a lot. Now rest while you can.

Are You Kidding Me?!?
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Call the doctor back and say you can not wait that long for the appointment. Maybe tell them you are not well and feel you may get worse. My surgeon is on call 24/7 for anything. I wish you luck with getting this matter taken care of.

the dreaded big butt
So my big butt was so big it could hold a serving tray. Well it is gone! I need a butt lift and I still have a lot to lose. My husband said I need to have the fat sucked from the belly and put into the butt. I told him they do that in Brazil. Brazil, here we come? It is a nice feeling to know that huge monster is gone and there is still room for improvement. I have a lot of belly fat. I go to the gym but I am sure I need to something else to work it off. The fat took many years to get there and it will take some time to get off the body. my fatonmythighs have lost at least 6" since September (that was when I started taking measurements). I hope every one realizes that inches count as much as numbers on the metal monster when losing. Every one enjoy your thinner day, off to the gym now. :wub:Arlene

Clinical - Cold - Cattle Call?
I agree, you need a new doctor and complain to the hospital about this so called doctor. When I go for fills I have only seen my doctor. He has a site from the hospital where you can write and ask questions, too. Good luck with this.

life style change
Wonderful story about changing the family's eating habits. I have 2 sons and in high school they were 200 lbs. different and both 6'2". My youngest is now 34 and still obese but is finally doing something, again. I hope this time it works out for him. Doing it as a family is super. Good luck. I am very proud of the "no donut" daughter.

I know what my trigger is!
I am sorry your husband isn't behind you. Does he think the new you, thinner, is going to leave him? Maybe talk to someone at your doctor's office about how to handle the spouse or bring it up at your monthly support meeting. At my monthly meeting one man said he has a non-supporting wife, after I introduced my supportive husband. You also hear stories how people marry 'a large person' and then that 'large person' gets fit, lose weight and the spouse doesn't want them anymore. Have you talked to your husband about this? I wish you luck with this. We are all here to listen and we try to help each other with these problems.

How sweet it is....

Wow what a year
Congratulations on 1 year! and to a wonderful weight loss. There is hope for me. I always wanted to try Zumba and I am afraid. My knees are shot and the back is gone. Is this a bad thing to try?

the blame game
I was reading about how some people give up and then go back to their doctor for help, which is wonderful. Then there are the people who blame. I have a cousin, Ilana (real name) a know it all RN, who had bypass surgery about 8-10 years ago and is now over weight, again. She blames her surgery for failing. She likes to snack, have her afternoon wine and a cocktail when dining out. Her mother had the bypass over 25 years ago and she also gained all her weight back. (she passed away from cancer). Why do people have surgery and then blame the surgery for failing and not themselves. Ilana went back to her doctor and said the surgery failed, could he re-operate. He said, no. Good for him. We are given a TOOL and we have to learn to use it and respect it. If we don't then we are back to being over weight and it is our fault, no one else. Yesterday I had Chinese food for lunch, had a few other bad choices during the day, my fault, I gained or retained fluid from the sodium, my fault, can't blame anyone else for me, failing. I got the Band 8 months ago today and I think I am doing ok. Not a super fast weight loss but a decent one. I see my doctor in a few weeks and I do lose every time which I like and he does too. Have a wonderful weekend. Happy Passover and Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates. Arlene

is anyone else going through this
I find it doesn't stop but does not smell usually. I burp very loud now and my stomach gurgles a lot mostly at bed time.

Living with the band is like being in a marriage or relationship
That was true and super. I have missed your wonderful thoughts and education. Hope everything is well with you and hub. Be well and keep them coming. Arlene

A glass of wine?
I don't drink, so I have no idea about the wine. But my SIL drinks wine all the time and has lots of ice and waters it down. Maybe try that. My doctor doesn't want me to eat and drink within 30 minutes of each other, so how do you dine and drink at the same time unless your doctor lets you. Well, anyway, have a wonderful date night-enjoy a great movie.

Some things learned so far
I liked the don't live in the past. I know too many people who do. That all was great-thanks for sharing your thoughts.

only 7 days to go!
I have noticed that every doctor has their own ways, also. I know when I get a fill I am on liquids for 3 days, then mushy for 3 days then back to my regular food. Other people say they can have their regular food the next day. So listen to your doctor and dietitian and not everyone else. We all can help with questions but not what your doctor tells you. You will do fine. Write down all your questions and write the answers, don't depend on memory. Good luck.

190's
I think you're doing great. While walking all over Disney you may develop more muscle and not lose more pounds, but may need size 12 when you're finished with the vacation. You'll have a super time, bring and wear sun block and a hat.

pre-op diet
Don't know where to start. First-congratulations on getting the band. I hope your husband does well. I think that is what my DIL has and she is doing great and had a baby in November. She takes (ex. spell.) Gleflex. Something like that and she is doing real well. Very nice about your daughter. I feel very sorry for your BFF that a man can have such control and she allows it. Good luck next week and keep us posted about the family, sisters etc.

Scared
If someone said they were not scared, I think they may be lying. We have all been there and you will wake up and start your journey like all of us banded people to a whole new healthier you. Think of all the new clothes you will need for the smaller you. I know I love that part. A year ago this month I was my highest, 268 wearing a size 20w jean. Now I wear misses size 14 jeans. That doesn't suck. Good luck on Tuesday!!! take before measurements, I forgot to and I never took before pictures, I have some group ones but never real befores.

Are you a Pessimist or an Optimist
That was wonderful, sad, happy and everything else. My mother, 95 in July, has dementia. She took care of my older brother who is mentally challenged. It was and is the hardest on him. Our mother is in a nursing home for 2 1/2 years now. She doesn't know her 4 grandsons at all. She gets excited seeing them but does not know their names. She once told my oldest brother I was the girl and them remembered my name. She barely remembers my father, he died 7 years ago. It is very hard on the family. I wish you and the whole family a lot of luck with everything. Arlene

Day 3 post opt
I'm happy to hear everything is turning out ok. Joining the gym the best thing I have done a real long time. My husband and I actually love going. Only took us 42 years of marriage to do something healthy.

Hard work and determinantion really do pay off.
I agree with you. I think most women, could be all, put everyone before their own needs and then we finally wake up. At least you're much younger than me for your wake up call. I take care of everyone still.

The Big Day :)
congratulations! I am happy everything went so well. SF Popsicles are the best. I just had one. I buy Edy's.

Don't talk about it, be about it.
Congratulations on the band. I use skim milk only in my shakes from day one. I never used water. That thought is gross. I use a little decaf instant coffee, peppermint extract and tons of ice and make the best thick shake. I have one very morning, oh ya, I use 2 scoops of the protein to make sure I get in enough. I had the band in July and have been drinking the shakes for one year now. By having the shakes for breakfast I lost 28 pounds before the band. Good luck and welcome to the best site for help, opinions and laughs and cries.
