Dont give up. You may have lost a battle but you will win the war. I will leave you with this inspirational quote. ""Now we are the masters of our fate, That the task which has been set us is not above our strength .That it's pangs and toils are not beyond our endurance .As long as we have faith in our cause and an unconquerable will-power Salvation will not be denied us ! "- Winston Churchil"
  7. initially you will not be able to eat much due to pain, nausea and swelling. after your move to a solid diet you will be able to eat a little. i am 11 months out and can eat about half a hamburger and a little bit of fries. i still have good restriction which is what i need. i am down 154 pounds since surgery and 204 pounds total. good luck
  8. im glad you went back to the doctor. when i had a skin infection i was put on Amoxicillin for about 14 days. Its pretty strong and knocked the infection out. good luck
  9. I use GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60. 60 grams of protein per serving. It has amino acids to help with protien absorption. i only do 1 serving a day. sometimes i will break it into 2 servings.
  10. I had man boobs "moobs" now i have flapjack titties. not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
  11. The evaluation is pretty simple. you go speak with a therapist about the surgery and what you expect to get from it. they ask you a lot of fact finding questions to see how you will deal with surgery and life after surgery. i was nervous but after the first few minutes all was well. my evaluation was about 1:30 hr long.
  12. The savings on Food, insurance, and associated medical cost will pay for itself in a few years. It will also prolong your life so you make more money. Getting the sleeve is a win win situation.
  13. Sorry for your loss. i will be having a sleep study done this week for suspected sleep apnea
  14. I did not have drains put in but i have been around a few people that have had them. Most of the pain goes away after the drain is removed. to me it sounds like the area might be infected. i would keep a close eye and go to the ER if it gets worse. I have had a wound infection before and it can be bad really quickly.
  15. I hurt myself about 3 months ago and pinched a nerve in my back. it left the entire lower half of my body numb with some shooting pain. i would ease off a little and take it slow. sounds like a pinched nerve to me.
  16. I had my surgery November 9th of last year. I am down 154 pounds since surgery 204 pounds overall. Best decision of my life. good luck!
  17. The answer is yes and No. Early on you will not be able to., but i would say after .3 months you will be fine. i am 11 months out and tolerate all foods fine.
  18. My doctor is the Chief Surgeon at Jewish hospital in Cincinnati and performs all three surgeries VSG ,Bypass and the Band. when i spoke to him he gave me the pros and cons to each surgery. he pushed me towards having the sleeve for three reasons. I am young, The weight loss between the sleeve and bypass are similar, i have over 200 pounds to lose and the sleeve can be revised to the bypass. Fast forward 11 months out , i am down 203 pounds overall. i have not had any complications other than dehydration 1 week after surgery. My surgeon is actually moving away from the lap band because of all the band to sleeve revision surgery's that he has had to perform.
  19. im 11 months out and 200 pounds total and have not had any of these issues. i had my vitamin levels checked last week and all were fine except for d3 which was just a little low. i have only thrown up once since sugery and that was because i made the transition from liquid to solids to quickly. it seems like she is having problems with her band. she might want to have a band to sleeve revision. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/13-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/
  20. The Best thing you can do as a friend is to be 100 percent truth full about your experience. Tell her all your ups and downs and be honest. A lot of people see your results but do not see your struggle. Let her know that surgery is not the easy way out and that the sleeve is merely a tool that can be used to lose weight. If she needs support this forums is one of the best places online for people with the VSG. I have friend that is considering the surgery and he knows about all the struggles i have been through. The best thing you can do is give her the most information you can so she can make an informed decision.
  21. I am single right now, but honestly i haven't been looking for a relationship. I still have some "midnight maneuvers" from time to time but its nothing serious. I have been focusing on myself. i figure that when i meet that special person that it will be great, but im not actively searching. There is a saying " you cant be happy with another person, if you cant be happy by yourself "
  22. Congrats and Good Luck!
  23. Im 11 months out. Alcohol hits me a lot quicker so i tend to have to take it slow. and yes we are all cheap dates after having the sleeve.
  24. Have you already been on a diet recently? sometimes If your PCP confirms that you were on a diet while seeing him they might count that time towards the 6 months. Its worth a try. and i would definitely call and give them hell.
  25. I would hold off on the protein shake. your taste buds will change after surgery and you might end up wasting protein due to the change in taste. everything else that Itchtcatt55 suggested is great.
