How to tell if medication is not being absorbed?

Recommended Posts

I take these pills (i call them don't make Manda mad pills) that I've already up the dose from 1 a day to two (which my psychologist said was fine), but I'm noticing lately I'm getting angry easier again and I'm not sure if its the pills not working or my hormones. How can you tell which it is?

I really don't like take meds to begin with, but these do help when dealing with my anger issues as I was always waking up angry, I don't stay that way - it just is left overs from bad dreams. but with these pills prior to surgery - I wasn't anymore... I have a bit of bipolar :/ genes are awesome... aren't they?

I'll probably just wait to see my Dr. I see him in like two weeks... was just thinking about it cause I noticed while on the phone with a customer I got a little excessively upset and feeling as though was going to pop a vessel... and it was over something stupid as them not understanding that all I wanted was an address to send their invoices too.

There may be two things at play here.

First, as your fat cells dissolve they will release not only fat but also hormones and chemicals stored within these cells. Generally these are flushed through your system into your kidneys and expelled in your urine. But it is very important to make sure you are hydrated. If you do not drink enough fluids, these hormones will stay in your system and you will experience a hormonal flush.

Second, your new stomach may not absorb your prescription medicine the same way that it did prior to surgery. You may have to work with your doctor to find a medicine that will absorb better.

There are a number of "maybes" here.

You omit the name of the medication, but I'm going with its being a psychotropic. It's not uncommon for them to work for a while and then no longer work. Whether the dosage can be increased safely is to be determined by the psychiatrist* who is prescribing for you; many meds have a maximum dosage.

Then there's the possibility of wacky hormones impeding the efficacy of the med. @@James Marusek offered other ideas that may account for what's going on.

* I do hope you meant "psychiatrist" rather than "psychologist," who does not prescribe. If it's your GP who prescribed, you may want to consult a psychiatrist whose business it is to know the full range of meds and where to go when one drug isn't providing the desired relief.

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
