Scary noises

Recommended Posts

Woke up just now (midnight) and have to go to the bathroom. I stop outside the bathroom door and I hear a strange sound. The bathroom window is open and it faces our backyard which backs into woods. I hear what sounds like demons screaming. It sounded so scary i was actually afraid to go in the bathroom because my sleepy brain thought the demons would see me and come after me, so I just went back to my room.

After some googling I'm pretty sure what I heard was a fox vixen call. After finding this out I was able to go to the bathroom and back to bed

Yes.....yes I'm like 90 % sure it was a fox I heard....but just to be safe I have barricaded my door with the new tub of cat litter, double checked that the closet was empty and completely closed and also barricaded, and took a running leap into bed. Yeah I'm 33 years old and sleeping with a nightlight tonight

As long as it's not one of those "Jersey Devils from the Pine Barrens".

Are you sure it wasn't your sleeve "talking" to you? Mine sounds like two dinosaurs chatting at times.

LOL it definately wasn't my sleeve talking. I know very well what that sounds like and this was nothing like it.

Honestly my initian reaction was that it was a person screaming and that the Purge had begun

I was wondering about sleeve sounds. My poor girl friend...I keep reminding her that my gut makes some strange noises, after 8 months I think she is starting to believe me... ;-)

Interesting. A few days ago, someone told me the sound of a mountain lion sounds like a woman high pitched wailing.

Agreed. The scariest noise I ever heard in the night sounded like a woman screaming bloody murder. OH NO no no no no no. OH NO no no no no. I peeked outside and did not see anything. The next day a neighbor told me it was her cat in heat.

Now you all can stop wondering why NYC looks upon NJ as a daft neighbor that should move farther off.

NJ calls itself "The Garden State." The toll booths on one of its two major highways, the NJ Turnpike, are [or were] decorated with potted, plastic flowers. Says it all.

NJ has more than just 2 major highways. Have you ever been here? Beyond just driving on the crappy turnpike?

I once heard something that sounded like a pair of ghosts moaning "Ooooooooh! Ohhhhhhh!!!! OOOOOOOOOH!!!" It was coming from my basement and it scared me to death. I went down to see what was happening and half expected skeletal ghosts to chase me back upstairs but then I saw my cats sitting at the window with their hackles raised and tails all puffed up, moaning at a raccoon outside.

Animals can make some pretty spooky sounding noises!

That happened to me once too, I heard what sounded like a woman crying and needing help. I ran outside onto my deck about 2am, phone in hand ready to call 911. My neighbor was out on his deck as well with a large spotlight. He yelled over at me to say that all was good, "it's just a few mountain lions roaming the lakeshore for Water." My pomeranian guard dog was hidding under my bed. :-)

Yes, I've been to NJ. I've been there many a time on my way to somewhere.

C'mon, you know my point is the incongruity of a state highway decorating itself with plastic flowers in "The Garden State." It could be worse: It could be the Garden State Parkway that's festooned with artificial flowers.

Honestly, I worked as a day camp counselor in a long-defunct resort hotel in West Orange for a couple of years during college. Some relative and close family friends ran away to NJ. I spent many a weekend during college in New Brunswick. Went to a wedding in Jersey City two years ago; the ceremony was held on a terrace overlooking the river with a view of the New York skyline. My friend of longest duration and others live in NJ. Always got a kick out of the Weehawken Library when taking that large circle from the Lincoln Tunnel. Much more.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
