So, I start my 1 week liquid only pre-op diet tomorrow but I am a little confused. So PA at dr's office said 3 Protein shakes per day and ok to have chicken broth in between. I told her I had the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup flavored Protein also and she said that would be fine since it is a "clear liquid". Do you suppose that is in addition to the Protein drinks or in place of? I have the Premier Protein Shakes which are 30g protein each and the Unjury is another 20g (or maybe 30g - don't have it in front of me). NUT said to target 80 to 100 g protein during this time, so I am guessing the Unjury should replace?

Also, on the last day before surgery no shakes - just Clear liquids but would you think I could still have the Unjury Chicken Soup? And should I mix some unflavored Protein powder in to my drinks that day?

Last question, I am Type 2 diabetic. Would you think I need to try to get in some carbs during these days?

I know I should have asked the PA or NUT, but I got a little overwhelmed at pre-op appts yesterday and didn't. Any advice?

I would think it would be in replace of.

I would replace the Protein shake with the unjury chicken broth and stick to the Protein goal your NUT gave you.

My NUT and surgeon stressed the importance of keeping your carbs low on the pre-op diet to allow your liver to shrink. I would not add in carbs to allow for the T2 Diabetes. I would adjust my diabetes medication if I needed to. Actually that's what I did. I took my metformin as prescribed and I was also on insulin twice daily so I backed off on the amount of insulin I took to allow for the lower carbs.

Best of luck to you! Don't be hesitant to call you drs. office and ask them to clarify their instructions. That's what they're there for!

Thanks all! I survived the pre-op diet (almost - last day today - Clear Liquids only). Just thought I would check back in and let others know what I learned about my T2 diabetic medicine.

I only take Metformin (4 x 500mg). I was told to check my blood sugars 4 to 6 hours apart and or anytime it felt too low and only take the Metformin IF my sugars were above 150 and then only start with 2 tablets. Luckily, the highest my sugars have been thus far is 124 and lowest was 84 and that was without my Metformin so I haven't taken any since I started liquid diet. NOT A DR SO I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS FOR EVERYONE. Just thought I would share my experience. Truly hoping that was the end of my days with T2 diabetic meds! Woohoo! My biggest reason for the surgery!

Surgery is tomorrow at 8 a.m. SOOOOOO READY!!! :)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
