Hoping to get revision soon

Recommended Posts

I've had my band since Oct. 2011 and it has been a nightmare. I'd lose weight if it was so tight I could only have fluids but would have the worst acid reflux. Anytime I tried to eat anything it would just come right back out so I went from 256 to 207 and back up to 236 because they had to take most of the saline out. It's so frustrating! I asked my doctor if I could switch to the bypass and she told me to call her with my new insurance info at the first of the year so I did and got a call that my insurance does cover revision but I need to go in and see the doctor this Thursday to talk in detail and see if I need nutrition classes again. Yikes! I hope everything goes well.

Wishing you luck! I was converted two weeks ago. Make sure your surgeon is quite experienced in band to sleeve conversions. They are much more complicated.

My appointment went well. I have to do 3 months of nutrition classes, psych evaluation, physical therapy, and support group. I'll be able to get my revision surgery in about 4-5 months. I'm so excited!

My doc is very experienced and would not do a sleeve from the band. I got band removed last April and RNY in December. I trust the doc's judgement and the less risk the better. Hang in there and do what they say! Follow diet and you will be very happy! I am 8 weeks post op and things are good, even getting back energy

I can't wait to be where you are Golflady. I go to my nutrition, psych, and physical therapy appointments tomorrow. It's going to be a full day with added 5 hours total of driving. Totally worth it! ????

Sorry you have to go through all of the classes again. I didn't have to since I had been through all of it before. I did get insurance to pay for the revision with no problem. I had much the same story with my 2 band revisions (I was first band in 2009 with a slip that next year and always struggled. I love this so far and I am now onto solids and having salad again (although it isn't much).

A couple of things.... A great source of Protein I have found that works best was the premium Protein drinks from costco, they have only 1 gram of sugar and 30 grams of Protein in one shake and only 160 calories.

Also be sure they give your an anti nausea meds (have them filled before surgery) to take when you get home from hospital. And stick to the liquids before and after (just follow what they tell you) and you should be good to go.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing on your journey.

We have very similar stories. I had my revision to RNY a month ago. I'm no longer in pain because of the port, and I can eat without throwing everything up! I also had to go through the entire process again with the prep appointments, but it worked out well because my new practice was so much more thorough than the previous one I was at.

I finished my nutrition classes 4/10 and they called me today to tell me that they sent all of the paperwork to insurance. :D

I'm still waiting for approval. ???? On April 27th the insurance needed my sleep study report and I was told twice by my surgeons office that they sent it when they didn't and didn't even have it. Last Thursday I got the report myself and faxed it so hopefully I'll hear something soon. I'm going crazy!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
