I injured my foot 11 days after my surgery in a fall. Have to do the whole stay off it and keep it elevated crap for 6-10 weeks. So I'm wondering, should I really keep trying to drink all this Protein if I'm not able to get up and exercise? Seems like a lot of unnecessary calories. I drink mega muscle milk. It has 40 grams of protein and 220 calories per 14 ounce serving.

Protein is important for healing as well as helping you feel full. As to what type of Protein Shake you should be drinking, you may want to consult with your surgeon or dietician on that. 220 calories is a lot, but so is 40 grams of protein. Whether it fits in well with your program's rules is something they can help you determine. Good luck and I am sorry to hear about your foot injury, I know how painful that can be!

I have no dietician and not much info from my surgeon. I was a cash pay since I didn't meet the bmi requirements through insurance so I didn't have to go through nutrition classes, psych eval, or any of the stuff sleevers normally go through before surgery. I made my first call to the surgeon's office on October 20th and my surgery was on November 4th, so it all happened really fast. I have a folder from my surgeon with all the info, but it doesn't address everything. I am also one of those people that doesn't want to bother my doctor unless I'm dying so I am very hesitant to call and bother him.

Protein is to preserve muscle mass as we lose not just to build muscle. Plus it's important for healing and repair. I would say it's as important as it ever was with you if not more

I would definitely contact the surgeon, not about Protein, but about the risk of a blood clot. You just had major surgery, then injured your ankle. Immobilization, along with the trauma of surgery, can cause clotting. Which is very serious.

Sorry, your foot. I was thinking about my ankle surgery as I typed that.

Aghhh, I have already worried about this soooooo much because I'm a lazy non active person already. I've felt so great since surgery and had more energy than ever since starting B12 supplements that I was beginning to move around much more. Unfortunately, this is why I fell. Wouldn't have done that if I'd still been my usual lazy self ;)

Since you laid up, perhaps google around for lower calorie Protein. Check you handouts and see if there is a minimum Protein requirement per serving that your doctor recommends.

My handbook says a typical Protein Drink has between 150-200 calories per 8 ounce serving. Perhaps find one that's closer to 150 calories?

On the bright side, I still feel great and laying around isn't driving me crazy since that was pretty typical for the pre-surgery me anyway. Don't even feel like I had surgery.

If it's typically 150-200 for 8 ounces, shouldn't 220 for 14 ounces be just fine? Plus 40 grams of protein is a lot for one drink. I am no math genius, but I think 220 for 14 ounces is even better than 150-200 for 8, right?

Sounds right about right, then again the only time I'm good at math is when I'm shopping and calculating % off my bill. Does the bottle list 14 ounces as the serving size? Or is the entire container 14 ounces? How many do you drink a day?

LOL! 14 ounces is one serving. I only drink one per day and it takes me several hours.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
