OK so I have not been on here so much since surgery. I'm going to be honest. I hate the changes to this app. I liked it better before. It's harder to maneuver through now and find things. Anyways that being said on with the numbers. Surgery date was 8/15/14 weighed 220lbs. Today I'm at 184lbs. 4 lbs from 40lbs lost Yayyyy. Hope all is well with everyone!

I am booked to have sleeve on Oct 15th in Mexico. I am 58 years old and very nervous. I am wanting a change in my life and cannot seem to have the will power to do this on my own. My husband is an alcoholic and I've been depressed. when he drinks I eat... thus the vicious circle. I can't change him, but i can change ME. that's my goal.

being from Canada, it's great medical coverage, but to get a sleeve paid for is impossible. I am paying myself as my mom died recently and left me some money. I want to use this for my happiness.

got any pointers for me?

No pointers except to find a support group. You deserve to do something wonderful for yourself.

Why have you chosen to go to Mexico. Id it the waiting list. I waited 4 years. If I had had the funds I would have gone somewhere else too. All the best to a fellow Canadian! :) @@Cher56

Dear Cher, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I am 56 and was really scared, too. I won't lie: I had a tough time my first two weeks pain-wise but I would still do it again. I am now one month out, 30 lbs down, and re-learning how to eat. I am on regular food now. It sounds like you have a lot of stress in your life. I'm glad you are doing this for yourself. It will be tough but you will get through it and start feeling better and more positive soon. Please keep us posted. Love from Texas in the USA.

You are making one of the most important decisions of your life and you won't regret it. It's normal to be nervous it shows you've done your homework. 1 tip I can give you is find a high Protein low carb drink that you like because some of us find that we don't like the taste of Water after surgery. It will be so important to get as much Fluid in as you possibly can in the first weeks. You won't be eating much as you go through the 6 weeks of food stages. So if you can find a good Protein Drink it will make life so much easier for you. I like the Syntrax Nectar. Take Care and Good Luck

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
