I'm very excited for surgery on wed and then today I saw pics of flabby excess skin and it really made me sad. I know it's about health and I get it. But something about that picture made me very very sad. Oh goodness the emotions are driving me nuts.

It's one of the realities that's just not so awesome. But I would never trade my flabby skin back for fat. My lifestyle is too awesome now.

I had this exact same reaction yesterday when a friend's husband posted a pic of her. She is a little over a year out and the excess skin was sooo bad.

Then someone took a pic of me at church this morning and I realized I can find ways to cover up all of that excess skin (until PS) but I can't hide this fat body.

I'm kidding myself if I think I looked better at 339 lbs with no excess skin -- because it was all stuffed with fat -- than I do now. I'll take the skin!

It's a small price to pay, as our friends above have said so well. Yesterday I sat on a swing next to my four year old son, and the swing didn't violently pinch my hips like I'd experienced for the past 8 years. Awesome! I fully intend to go down the curly slide with my kid by the end of the summer.

I can wear many different styles of clothing I couldn't wear before, when I always tended to choose dark colors and flowing styles. Now I wear just the opposite. I used to hate to choose what to wear in the morning. Now I love to get dressed!

Did I mention how strong I am? Or how much confidence I've gained Or how my back, knees and feet don't hurt? Or how I dont carry around the nearly-constant guilt of my last over- indulgence?

Nope, a little flappy skin is a tiny price to pay. Any fashionista worth her salt can keep that stuff covered beautifully.

I'm at goal, and unfortunately still have a size 22 skin wrapped around my size 2 body. I'm looking into plastics, but for now just cover it up. I was a pear shape, and all of my skin is tummy, lower back, and upper legs, but I hide it well. The plastic surgeon that I had my consult thought I was there for tattoo removal, he was floored when I opened my robe and he saw the excess skin. We will be submitting my paperwork in the next few weeks to see if insurance will help with payment at all. Like the others I wouldn't trade my new life, body, and confidence for anything. Because of a genetic autoimmune disease I have almost no elasticity in my skin, so I didn't bounce back at all in the skin department. But I'm going to take care of that very soon, with or without insurance, with would be better of course. LOL

Hey guys, well tomorrow is my day April21st.. I'm

Beyond anxious. Wondering is my house clean enough the the hubby ok taking over my usually duties. Dear god I hope he feeds the dog. Etc I'm shakey and anxious yet excited and impatient. I just want to do it already and start healing. Any last tips?? My anxiety is so high I feel like I am about to pass out :( I know I am being a baby but I can't help it. Starting weight was 273lbs but now I'm weighing in at 253.2lbs after the preop diet... I really want to get down to 135-145lbs. Is that likely possible? I'm 24 athletic flexible etc... Sorry I'm rambling. Good luck fellow 21st sleeves!!

It depends on how tall you are.

You are having major surgery, of course you are nervous. It's normal, I felt the same way! Good luck tomorrow!

I have thought and wondered how I would feel with the excess skin. I think, "what if I can't afford to have my tummy fixed". So, you are not alone in your thinking, we are human. I know plent of people who look nice after surgery, without clothes I don't know lol

Lots of people don't need plastics. I really wouldn't let that stop you.

Something else to consider. .. at 2, 3 and 4 months out I was so grossed out by my body, all my skin was so loose and hanging. Now, at 6 months out, not so much. I have almost no "hanging" , just a very little low on my belly but I really think with hard work and another 10-20 lbs lost it will be gone. Granted, I have very elastic skin, but the point is you just never know, and don't freak out in the beginning if it's bad because it could get better in time. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
