Heavy Period with IUD Post Vertical Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Hey There,

I have been having a heavy period this week after getting sleeved 5 weeks ago and I have an IUD. Has anyone experienced this? I have not had a heavy period since I have had the Mirena for 2 years. I am wondering if this is unusual or if there is something else to be concerned about. I have an apt with my OBGYN next week, but am thinking of getting in sooner if this continues.

Please share experience if you have an IUD. Thanks Much!

I have had a Mirena for 7 yrs. (I'm on #2) Prior to surgery I didn't have a period, so I was shocked when I got one after surgery. It wasn't heavy by any stretch, but it required a pad or tampon for about 2-3 days. I went out and bought up the feminine products aisle. It hasn't happened since. Did they have you on a blood thinner during surgery? I am on Pradaxa daily, and I think that has something to do with it.

I had heavier cycles, but they were non existant prior to surgery with my IUD. I was on a blood thinner in the hospital. But, not at this time. I just find it unusual and wondered if anyone else experienced this post surgery. Thanks for the reply.

Hi JSC2014,

Thanks for the reply. I see you had your surgery a month before I did. Congrats!

Did you see your doctor for the heavier bleeding with the IUD? I am thinking maybe it is just the first couple cycles. Just hope they are not all like this.

Hi,

I had surgery a month ago. I have had an IUD for 7 years as well (#2). Before surgery I would get a very light period every 4 months or so. I just got a full on period 2 days ago and it's the heaviest I've ever had since my 20's. It scared me but as I am reading on this site it seems to be normal. I hope I go back to not getting a period because um, isn't that the point of an IUD? It is to me at least. :) The cramps are pretty horrible too and I can't take Advil.

This thread has put my mind at ease. Thanks everyone.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
