I just joined VST today. I'm 63 & a retired RN. My surgery is scheduled for August 22. I've lost almost 30 pounds on the 3-month supervised diet, but I am sure looking forward to not being so hungry after surgery.

Hi K33! I'm doing really good, I think. I started full liquids today and everything is going well. I thought I was dying on Tuesday morning after surgery Monday because I had been awake ALL night with severe acid reflux, and just knew I was no way able to go home since I could barely waddle to the end of the hall. However I passed the leak test that morning, shortly afterward the nurse that came on shift beat the hell out of my acid belly with protonix, pepcid and zofran; then the WLS coordinator came in to see me and prescribed a does of hydrocodone and by 3 PM I was a new woman and on my way home by 5 PM. I slept like a log in my own bed that night and although hubby said I moaned everytime I rolled over, I don't remember anything. I was a bit fatigued and weak yesterday but stayed in top of hydration with homemade chicken broth and snocones. Today I walked out to the back, checked the garden, visited with the goaties and have felt pretty darn good. I'm going to ask hubby to take me walk about down the street when the sun goes down.

How are you doing? How is your recovery going?

I just joined this forum today. I am 66 years young and will be sleeved on 8/15/13. I am also having my hiatal hernia repaired. I am a diabetic, have high blood pressure, high cholestrol, hypothyroidism, depression, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, etc. I hope to get my health back and be able to move more. I am also a nurse and am working part time.

So happy to have a forum to post on!

I just turned 61 yesterday and I'm scheduled for surgery August 23rd. I was worried about being too old but if I continue to gain weight, I'm headed for more health issues! I went through a few days of thinking about backing out. It's very scary!

I am 62 and had my surgery a week ago. I needed a little coaxing the day of. My recovery is going well. I asked for enough anti nausea and pain Meds so that I was walking around the unit within 4 to 6 hrs (narcotics blurred my memory). I amped up my walking 2 weeks prior to my date and think it helped. Not one post op person I know said they had regrets and this gave me comfort to take the leap. And that boosts my feelings about myself.

Hi ladies. Today was my 64th birthday and I had the time of my life. Sleeved April 4th and have I made the right decision. I may have over eaten today but I felt full and have I listened to my tummy. I think i wasn't eating enough during the day and could hardly eat 800 calories. Protein baby!!!Chicken Fajitas, a bit of avocado, Beans and a little rice. This was a turning point for me and I'm ready to get back to a little more sensible path tomorrow. Hang in there. Time is your best friend and try not to rush it. I know at first things may look bleak. No one likes liquids at first but that is a good thing. Your tummy needs to heal. I still have cans of cream of whatever Soups in my pantry and will never touch them again. Mucky food are OK and you can work more with these foods. At my third week visit my Surgeon said "Eat what you what." "Sure Is he nuts?"

I have made a big mistake! Sitting in a chair most of the time or laying in bed watching TV must stop! I got out today and it was wonderful. Hot but I have so much energy. Good luck to you all and remember, I did this to be heather. Stay in touch. Carole

I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. The first 10 days were a nightmare. I had a "surprise" hiatal hernia repair done at the same time. I'm a RN, and planning on going back to work on Monday. I'll be 61 Sept. 24th. My only regret is that I didn't have this surgery sooner.

Good morning everyone! I too wish I would have had the surgery sooner. I think of all the things I missed because of my weight and it saddens me. But the past is gone - great things in the future.

Some time I will share my story (if you don't already know where I started) but for now .... have a fabulous Friday and enjoy your weekend!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
