I am 63 and got my sleeve in Jan. I have lost 66lbs so far! This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Wishing you the best!

Today I am at 11 days out. I have been dealing with low grade fever (if you can call 99.4 "fever")all week however my surgeon and I have been in frequent contact and the general consensus is my body is just adjusting to the whole healing/starving/healing process. I am getting great amounts of liquids in and have been hitting 60 gms + in Protein. I'm still tired and don't really have the energy to get up and do the jitterbug or walk 5 miles, however over all I feel good and my nurse moved me from liquids to pureed foods yesterday saying that will probably help to increase my energy level. I have a bad habit of sitting around or laying around in the bed and I'm hoping to get more motivated once I have more energy. I am returning to work on Monday and fully expect my first week back to be a bear but plan to be good to myself, take it easy, and have my clients to do their own lifting and carrying. I haven't done anything on my ticker because the last time I was on a pair of scales was the 3rd of July and I neglected to ask for the numbers. I see the Dr for my post-op on the 21st and when I get those numbers, I'll also get my July weight and see if there has been any change. I'm glad I did this and feel like it is going to be the one thing that adds many more years to my life... I hope all my 60's sleevers are doing wonderful! I'm 61 and I'm out exactly one month today. I had a revision from a lap band. I have had no complications. This coming Wednesday I go for my 5 week checkup and should be able to move to soft foods. I had a 15 day stall from about 2 and a half weeks to 3 and a half weeks, it was very frustrating. Including the two week pre-op diet, I've lost 26 lbs. I am very happy with my decision. The last couple of days I have moved to minimal amounts of mushies. I was focused on taco bell pintos and cheese because I saw where a couple folks commented about them being a good Protein option. What I learned: Pintos and cheese come in a WAY smaller container than they did when I was a teenager; the Beans aren't nearly as creamy OR as flavorful as I remember; and finally - two infant spoonfuls mean I won't be able to eat OR drink anything the rest of the day there after totally negating my ability to get plenty of liquids AND Protein in . Contrary to thoughts, pinto Beans are not high protein when you can only eat two bites. Then this morning, maybe 2 teaspoons of corned beef hash and scrambled eggs. I then had a Protein shake for lunch and one for dinner and my stomach was grateful!

I'm still struggling with the final 11 oz of Water I've got left of my goal of 32 ozs total for today. Whew! This getting all the stuff in during the day id hard work if you have to actually eat food! :lol:

I did also have a tablespoon of gelato because I wanted something creamy and COLD. Popsicles weren't doing it for me. But just one tablespoon was definitely more than enough and satisfied that need for cold smoothness. Other than all of that, I think that for 12 days out, I'm doing ok.

I'm still fatigued and tire easily and have found that a mid day nap is almost unable to be resisted, however I think part of that is because I haven't restarted my welbutrin yet. I'm going to do that tomorrow to see if I can get my meds back into balance. I go back to work on Monday and am praying I have the energy to get through this coming week. And last but but not least I'll see my Dr. for my post-op and weigh in for the first time since July 3rd so I will finally get my "starting" weight (I forgot to ask) and my "current" weight so I'll get to see if I have lost any weight. I keep having fears that I went through this surgery and will find out that it doesn't work at all. :unsure:

Anyway, I wanted to check in with all the 60s out here and see how you are all doing and let you know, I'm still kicking.

Kaj, On my program staff's advice, my Wellbutrin was changed from extended release to regular. Same for Effexor XR. But Effexor tastes as bad as liquid codeine (tho it's a tablet).

60 here! Sleeved Aug. 5th and doing great. Moving to blenderized foods tomorrow.

good afternoon, haven't been here in a long long time- I am 19 months out; this is a lifestyle; I eat what I can when I can still cannot eat a full dinner which is fine. - total loss is 84 pounds, I go up five come down five and feel great. My body has now become familiar to me; I know it well and it knows me. I feel every pound I gain and when my clothes get a little tight - I reign myself back in and take care of what needs to be done. Now in a size 16; I feel horrible if I try on that size and it is tight; I calm myself down my the knowledge that all sizes are not alike. People no longer say OMG look at you - they are now use to me being normal weight. Have I had a few hiccups along the way? of course, I spend a lot of money on clothes and drink wine (I was always a beer drinker) - I am grateful for all the support I have received from this forum and my dear friends. It certainly a different adventure - a great ride.

I'm taking my meds as normal now and having no issues at all . Had my post-op this morning, asked about not having as much vim and vigor as I would like and Dr said at almost 61, just 16 days out and recovery from 2 surgeries I am doing awesome, so overall I'm good to go.

I am glad to hear these stories, I too am 60 , well will be 61 come April 5. I have hypothyroidism and wondered if that would effect the outcome of the weight loss. I am now on my 6 month supervised diet with my Dr. My surgery will probably be sometime at the end of May. Needless to say I am excited and scared.

      So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

        It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

      I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

        I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

      How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

        Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

        I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

        I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

        I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

      Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again. 
      I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent. 
      I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

      Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
      For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
      For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
      Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
      Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
      It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
