Not losing any weight....

Recommended Posts

I was banded on July 31st, 2009 and am at 6cc right now. I have lost a total of 34 pounds and am feeling frustrated......for my last 2 appointments, in 2 months I have only lost a total of 4 pounds. I exercise 3 times a week. I can eat more than the one cup they said I would be able to handle, but try not to. Anyone else banded in July and having problems? :rolleyes2:

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I know it no consolation but I was banded on June 15 and am struggling to keep 30 lbs off. It's not a big struggle, to be honest -- but I have stopped getting on the scale as often because I hate bad news. I struggled at one point going up and down 3 lbs. Now it's down 1 lb, up 1 lb, down 1 lb. I didn't think I needed another fill but after I had a cold and did a lot of coughing it seems that I can eat more ... sometimes this is soooo frustrating. I am trying to get in for another fill but by docs office seems to be averse to giving me an appointment.

Add all that to the fact that the last time I had a fill it was a traumatic experience because my doc had a hard time getting the needle into my port (I was shaking like crazy when I left his office and bleeding quite a bit). I have a tentative appointment for Tuesday the 15th but if he has surgery that day he will cancel my appt.

Getting another fill will probably help us both. Good luck.

I was banded May 26th and had only lost 20lbs. Was able to eat several times a day with no restriction. Could even swallow pills with no problem. I know how frustrating it can be. I recently got a fill 2 days ago which gave me a total of 7cc in my 10 cc band, it was way too tight, talk about the worst night of my life, I couldn't even swallow my own spit, went in 2 the doctor yesterday and he took out .5 cc so now I am at 6.5 cc's and I feel lots of restriction. When I was at 6 cc's prior to this fill, I felt nothing, so I think its just about getting 2 ur sweet spot and having patience. I just hope that after this fill I will lose quicker. Ya'll wish me luck.

I got banded on June 26th. I have lost a total of 35lbs. I have not been too successful of loosing weight, but I am loosing inches like crazy. I have joined my gym at work and they have been keeping track of my inches. I didn't work out at all last month and still lost 4 inches in my stomach and 3 inches around my hips. I have noticed that I loose more inches first then the weight. i just went and got my fill yesterday and I am at 8cc in a 10cc band. I am feeling the restriction today. I will see how it goes for the next few weeks, I might have to go and get a small unfill. I figure with everything else, I need to be patient and I will start loosing like crazy some time soon. Good luck!

sterski , I think we must be made of the same mold. Banded July 14th, 2 fills and only 31 pounds. I work out daily and cut out all bread products... Its so stressful :) to see no change. I am going in for the 3rd fill next week but wanted to say you are not alone and eventually we will win the fight against our bodies. Good luck to you! :)

Right where you are...you can read my story if you search my posts. Finally have a hint of a restriction with 10.5cc, ready for the next fill... Meantime .... hang on in there. We have no other way to go besides going down :-)

Hey Gang - It's not all about the fills - yes you need restriction that's why we got the band - to reduce the volume of food that we can eat.

But the band doesn't make our food choices for us.. It's also about what you are eating - losing weight is about reducing the # of calories you consume in a day vs the amount of calories you burn.

This is where I find keeping a food journal is helpful - it tracks/shows you the # of calories that you are consuming in a day - it could be you aren't eating enough - it could be you may be consuming too many calories depending on what you are eating.

Exercise is key too - every couple of weeks you need to up your intensity - In the beginning I only had to walk 1 mile to burn 200 calories but now I have to walk 1.5 miles at a higher speed and incline to burn that many calories - I weigh less so I burn less calorie than I did at 250.

During my weight loss phase I kept my calories between 800-1200 and varied then daily and like I said above - I increased the intensity of my exercise every few weeks and this for me this worked - I was banded 7/07 and by 12/07 I had lost about 55 lbs if I remember correctly..

IndioGirl55, first of... great job on your weight!!! You, as well as many others are my Heros!!!

You are absolutely right! But my problem have always been Portion Control. I'm 46yo. Have ALWAYS had a very active lifestyle and been working out 5 times/week on avarage (and I mean "working out", to the sweat not just moving around). I am completely healthy, very physically fit and have outdone my "normal weight" friends in many physical activities for decades. Being Eastern European transplant at the age of 27, I was raised eating right, never developped fast food and junk food lifestyle. Occasionally yes, but not in a life-altering way. I eat mostly right, raised both of my boys that way and got a LAP-BAND®® as a tool to help me with portions control. Eating 3 times more than I should 5 times a day and still feeling hungry is my MAJOR problem.

Last fill helped me in somewhat cutting portions. Currently I am working hard on learning to decipher between real hunger and head hunger. Meantime I'm ready for another fill so it could help me cut portions even more.

It is my personal choice to not making another "diet" out of this jurney. I eat 1500-1700 cals (while working out almost daily burning ~700-800 cals) and lose slow while adjusting physically and emotionally. But I do need my band to cooperate and help me with not eating a lot.

WOW! long post, painful subject :-(

Well i was banded June 2008! and have only lost 54 pounds i weigh 189 right now far from skinny, and guess what?! i have only 5.3 cc in my 10 cc band and they cant put anymore in because whenever they try to even put .2 i get stuck and cant even drink water! so my surgeon told me it will be up to me to eat only a cup of food, also i was eating 1200 calories a day and exercising every other day, well the dietician told me i should go down to 1000 calories a day,not easy to do when u dont have alot of restriction, one last thing my surgeon said i might not lose any more weight and no one will tell me why they think this, i havent lost any weight in 5 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now thats what i call real frustration!!!!!!!! you guys are just starting out be easy with yourselves you will make it!

Remodel - I totally agree w/you - this has never been a diet for me - it's all about eating healthy - I like healthy food - always have - I just ate way too much of it - plus too much sugar and high fat - I was never a fast food person - I ate too much good home cooking and I sat on my but 24/7.

I am right there w/you on the head hunger issues - I ate dinner last night was physically full but still wanted to eat (and my body was physically craving food) - this is where my addiction kicks in - once I eat I don't want to stop.

So between my band and my brain - I pretty much have this whole thing figured out for the most part. If I have extra treats - it mean extra exercise - If I'm going to a party - I eat light during the the day. This is what skinny pple do - yep they eat a pint of ice cream when they have a bad day - but they don't eat a half gallon every day ..

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
