December Delights 2009

Recommended Posts

Thin me, I have this pain too. It's more in my left shoulder and my neck when I'm "stuck" or too full. The thread recommended by another poster said that the band may be on the phernic (sp) nerve and if it's a real problem the band may have to be removed. It would take a lot of pain for me to give up my band!!!

Hey Yall,

I know exactly what you are talking about. I thought I had a pinched nerve or something and then I realized that neck and shoulder pain is mainly after I eat maybe too much. I just wish I had a better signal. Oh well, like illumination lady said, I would have to be in constant tears from the pain to give up this band!

Hey y'all! Hope everyone is doing well!

Does anybody else actually "feel" lighter? Like when I workout and get up off the floor after stretching, I actually just get up instead of the one knee up, ok, brace self, grunt, push, grunt some more, etc, lol. And when I do my lap around the office (it's a pretty big office) I go so fast (compared to before) I feel like going "zoooommm!".

Anybody else feeling that way? Feels good!

Off to workout...zoooommm! :-)

I do know what you're talking about. I don't dread getting on the floor for ab work, for fear I might not get back up!!! :cursing:

Does anyone do exercises that work your tummy/band area? I workout on the treadmill, but would also like to slim down my band area, which still seems to stick out more than it should. I'm a bit nervous about putting pressure on the muscles around the band/port, as I don't want to cause anything to slip or flip. Does anyone have a doctor approved exercise for this area?

Thanks

Not yet, my exercise guy that works for my surgeon doesn't want me doing ab work until 3 months out, just to be sure I don't stress the muscle around the port.

But I do notice that sometimes after working out, or even bowling, I'll be sore around my port for about a day. He said it's because if you're properly supporting your upper body when doing physical activity, you're still slightly working your abs. And with the way I switch and "be-bop" around when I walk on the treadmill to music, I'm not surprised at how sore I get there, lol! But he said it's ok as long as the soreness does eventually go away.

If when I go back in 3 weeks, my exercise guy gives me to ab work to do, I'll share. But as they say, before you begin any exercise regimine, check with your doctor.

Thanks for the info Liz. I don't want to take any chances, so would prefer to wait the 3 months and not have any problems.

You must be very versatile to be be-bopping and walking on the treadmill at the same time, I would be laying flat on my face! I do try to pull my tummy muscles in as I walk and have the TM set at max incline - funny I am always going uphill and never down! I sometimes wonder if my band area will stay sticking out - with all the hardware in there!!!!:wink2:

Thanks for sharing any info you get.

Happy March 1 everyone! Did your March start out like a lion or a lamb? When I looked outside this morning, it looked like a lamb, everything was covered in fluffy white snow!

I am 1 pound away from 50 pounds lost! And am only 0.2 points away from having a BMI of less than 40!

My hubby and I went clothes shopping this weekend for both of us. I went directly to the clearance rack and picked up a couple of pairs of size 20 slacks. Took them back to the dressing room, tried one on, they were a bit loose, asked the sales clerk to bring me a size 18. While the 18s were a bit snug, they fit! So I bought 2 pairs of them, figuring they'd give me a while of wear before I have to go down more sizes. So now I have 3 pairs of slacks I can wear for work that aren't sagging all over the place. I'm not going to give away my old slacks just yet, because I figure I may need them if by some miracle I do get pregnant. Of course, I'm not sure how they'd fit. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I also bought two dresses, yes, dresses, in size 22. Since my girls are still quite large, size 22 had to do it. But that's down from a size 24 top! I've got pictures on my blog if you want to check it out. The Winding Road to Parenthood

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Melinco, an 18 that is AWESOME!!! You are doing terrific. I am at a stand still I have only lost 2 pounds since 2/9/10. I am frustrated. I have went from a 24 to a 22. That is rewarding! I am determined I am going to lose 15 pounds by 4/1. :w00t:

I was given the :w00t: for ab work at my one month post op and have been doing it since (even at the gym with the weight resistance). My doc said it's sewn in there and even if I did a belly flop into a pool from a high diving board I'm not gonna hurt it. I do notice the muscle near my port sometimes seems a little more sore than the rest of my ab muscles after a good workout, but it goes away just like the rest of my muscle soreness.

@ Illuminationlady - Re: "Just wanted to update you all as you are family in my eyes." - I have been meaning to tell you, that was such a nice thing to say! I too feel our little 'band' as special friends, who I can bear my soul to (I have never told anyone but you guys how much I weigh!)

@ Melinco - you look great in your new dresses! Your smile says it all!!

@ Chickadee - Thanks for the info. I have the 'Realize' band and their ports are not stitched in, so I think I'll wait a couple of weeks and get the doc's OK. If you have a good ab exercise that I can do at home please let me know, so I'll be ready to go when I get the OK. - thank you again.

@ Michelle - I had my second fill last week and I feel more restriction, but not at my sweet spot yet. I do feel great and the scale has started moving again - tie me down, I might just float away!!!

@ Ara - That second fill will make a difference, it has for me. Hang in there, the scale will start moving again.

@ ALL - Hugs

You guys are definitely my band family! I enjoy coming here and hearing all the inspiring stories!!

I am too curious about ab exercises. There are a few things at the Y that I do, but would love to do more.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
