Feeling anxiety about surgery

Anyone else feeling this way? I'm sure it's normal, but I am worried about the anesthesia. I am trying to focus on the positive things, but can't help but picture myself running out of the OR with my gown on...

I share your concerns. I am 15 days pre surgery and have my last preop appointment the day after tomorrow. I suspect they will start me on liquids then. I am not so concerned about the anesthesia, rather "is this really the right thing to do?" A friend just had his band removed because of erosion. He was very sick. As he reflects, he admits that his surgeon and staff were very inexperienced. Also, he really did not do as he should have. But a lot was not communicated to him, so he didn't know what to expect. I hope you and I are more knowledgable.

I think it's perfectly normal to experience some anxiety before the surgery. This is a life altering change and major surgery. But go into it prayed up and positive, your best life is ahead of you!

My surgery is on Wednesday and I'm feeling anxious and excited. I've done a lot of reading and heard a lot of very positive things and I'm convinced it's the right move but it's a big move.

My very wise mentor told me that if I wasn't feeling this way ther'd be something wrong with me!lol

Goodluck~

I'm glad to know that I'm not alone. The closer it gets to surgery I worry about changing my mind.

I went through that after my waiting period and visits were up. All I needed to do was get psych clearance.. I got the letter and I sat on it for a week, meditating on what I should do, was I doing the right thing. I got my answer and I there's no going back for me.

Hi! This is my first time posting on here, but when I saw the "feeling anxiety about surgery," I knew I had to jump in! Up until a few days ago I was sooo excited about my surgery (01/07/10,) but now the excitement, while still there, is beginning to be taken over by anxiety. I am so worried something will happen during the procedure. I KNOW I am being irrational, I just can't help it. I could really use some reassurance by some bandsters who are living proof that they went through it all and are still here to tell the tale:)

I am living proof..amongst a trillion other people.. haha. i had my surgery on 11/23.. I woke up fine from anesthesia. of course i was drugged up on morphine.. but it wasn't bad AT ALL.. the recovery goes rather quick. anxiety is normal. your preparing your body for fight or flight. just take deep breaths and keep reminding yourself why you did it. feel free to ask any question and good luck on your journeys.

i suggest asking your surgeon the statistics of complications. it's nice to hear zero...

Thank you all for your kind words! I'm glad that I'm not the only one feeling this way. I am trying to breathe through it and not freak out. I'm sure it's going to be okay. I'll update tomorrow and let you know how the surgery went. It's scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

My surgery is 12/28 and I'm quite anxious as well. I hate needles... hate being needy... and don't do blood well! lol! I'm doomed! My biggest fear is also the anesthesia as I have actually found myself AWAKE on a surgery table before! However *deep breath & chuckles* I have plans to discuss that with surgeon and anesthesiologist at pre-op. If you have EVER had ANY type of anesthesia issue, be sure to tell your surgeon! Put it in writing and make sure it goes in your chart!

Surgery is over and I am home resting. It was a breeze! The only hard part was the gas pain when I woke up. Good luck to those of you going in for surgery later! I am officially in band-land!

austrolatrishy, I had my final preop visits (surgeon, anesthesiologist and nutritionist) today and started my preop liquid diet. The surgeon and his staff helped build my confidence a lot today. Surgery is still on for 12/15. I am so happy to hear you came off without a hitch. From all I read, you can expect to be sore for a few days. Take care of yourself.

Congrats to Austro!! You did it! You're a Baby Bandster! I was going to tell you to tell the doctor about your anxiety. They come in an give you a "cocktail" of yummy stuff that makes your anxiety go right away. But it's over and you're banded!! Yeah!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
