What is your favorite protien drink?

Recommended Posts

I am about to begin my pre-op diet and have tried and loathed in the past protien drinks. Mainly the thick gritty texture and "masked" infant formula taste.

What is your fav protien drink?

Thanks - Cat

Hi Cat.

I just had my band placed last Tuesday. I, like you, hate most of the Protein drinks. They are disgusting. But, I did find the EAS chocolate is pretty good. I have been using it. It's better if you get a cup of some kind you can freeze and then put your milk in there after your cup is frozen and add your Protein. I only do one scoop of protein because, like you said, it gets to thick and gritty. Also, if you add a couple pieces of ice, it seems to make it taste better.

Hope this helps. I have lost 14lbs in 8 days! Woo hoo.

Funny about the infant formula. I was making my Protein shake at the same time as I made a bottle for DS and oh they smelled IDENTICAL. Gag.

I'm only on day two, but I've already discovered that blending them with a ton of ice and adding a flavor enhancer works wonders. I'm drinking a muscle milk chocolate right now that's been blended with ice and a tablespoon of Decaf instant coffee crystals. It's actually not too bad.

Other mix-ins that work well are a teaspoon of sugar-free, fat-free Jello or pudding mix (the dry stuff, not mixed up). Also, a can of diet soda mixed in is good. Try a vanilla Protein Shake with diet orange or diet root beer.

I tried the Isopure Orange clear one, and it was AWFUL! Just FYI. Awful.

So far, I like Muscle Milk and the EAS Myoplex the best.

Thanks Amy! I found a couple websites with a variety of different drink options. I am now on a search for freebies I dont want to invest in something that is BLAH:thumbdown: Are you on day two of post or pre-op?

If you want to avoid the milky drinks all together, you can't beat Protein Blitz by Designer whey. They come ready-to-drink in Orange Mango, Grape, and Punch. They really taste like Kool-aid to me. I tried the Isopure Fruit Drinks and they were so chalky, but you don't get that at all from the Protein Blitz.

My favorite "milkshake" drink was the Muscle Milk chocolate Malt flavor, which I can't seem to find in stores anymore. I never had any problem with undissolved clumps of protein in the ready-to-drink bottles. I also like the Labrada Lean Body in Strawberries and Cream, also ready-to-drink.

I only used ready-to-drink Protein Drinks during my post-op period. It was just much more convenient for me. And these 3 got me through the 3 post-op weeks of liquids. I got them all from the Vitamin Shoppe.

I'm on day two pre-op. I wish it were post-op! LOL

If you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you, they sell the pre-mades individually so you don't have to invest a lot to try them. I've also heard the GNC lets you try the stuff, but I don't know if that's true or not.

I think I'm gonna get some powder Protein from costco and try it. costco is really good about letting you return things if you don't like them.

I have been drinking the Slim Fast Optima but it was suggested to me to try the EAS Myoplex Lite. Going to try and get some today.

I'm currently following the pre-op diet too. Only one more day to go! LOL

I'm a very picky eater and can't stand Protein drinks. I did find some that work for me. They are from Chike. Chike Nutrition - Best Tasting Meal Replacement shake. Guaranteed. Pour, shake, Drink & Go! They taste really good to me. You can get free samples from them.

There are also a lot of recipes here theworldaccordingtoeggface: My Favorite Protein Shake Recipes.

Hi all! My favorite was premier nutrition at costco. 18 ready to drink shakes for $23. They only have chocolate but I felt good because each shake has 30 grams of Protein. Yay!

Wal Mart has big containers of Protein Powder, Not sure of the brand off hand. I use it when I work out. It's fairly cheap $12 or $13. It tastes pretty good too. It's whey Protein.< /p>

EAS pre made choc shakes ( I get them at BJ's) I bring them everywhere.

Unjury...shudder

Jay Robb...not so bad, but I got sick of them

I am on my 4th brand of Protein Shake. As times go by, you may need to change things up. Health food stores may give you samples to try.

I have 2 cans of Unjury in pantry, so be careful not to order or buy too much, if you end up not liking them. It gets expensive to waste it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
