Did you stop losing weight after 2 weeks postop?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 3 weeks post op and now I am not losing any weight. I gained 2 lbs thru the week but am still down 20 since my surgery. I finally lost those 2 lbs again... I am barely eating maybe 300 calories a day. I am not hungry at all and actually forget to eat. I am just wondering when I will start losing again. I am afraid they wont give me a fill since I am not hungry and barely eating anything... Uggh has this happened to anyone else?

I go for a checkup tomorrow morning. Thanks

Try to get your calorie count up some. Are you on liquids, mushies or solids now? At whatever stage you are on, you need to find a way to get more food/nutrition in. You are probably correct about not getting fill, but if you aren't eating now, you don't need one. Please be honest with your surgeon when you go for your checkup. List what/how much you are eating on a daily basis so they can analyze it for you. Good luck and update after your appointment.

I lost 13 at two week post op visit. I had my surgery the day after you 10/23. I am barely eating anything either...but have only lost 1 pound since. The doc did tell me that it would start coming off way slower and that my body would start to balance itself and not to be surprised if I gained a few pounds back. He encouraged me to stay off the scale if I thought it would be discouraging. At first I didn't think I had any restriction, but now I think I do. I get hungry only twice a day and never wake up hungry...so wierd. Anyway...hang in there...I think it is all part of the process til we start eating regularly and then find the sweet spot I keep hearing about!

At 300 calories your body is in starvation mode. Soon you will notice tingling in your extremities. If your body is starving it will not give up the stored fat.

You need to consult your nutritionist to find out what and how much you specifically need to eat.

Thanks guys...

Laney- on Sunday I forgot to eat pretty much the whole day and then I noticed my hands were shaking terribly - that never happened to me before. So I ate something. I am eating soft mushy foods still... I am trying to get Protein in by eating tuna fish each day. One package is 13 grams of protein and only 100 calories. I cant really eat chicken - it seems to get stuck ...

Talk to you all later.

that's exactly what happened to me..once i started eating again, it did come off, but slowly. Get measured in about 2 weeks...that's what i did and i was down 4 INCHES on every spot in my torso...waist, hips, and chest....the doctor wasn't kidding when he said that lap band patients lose inches first....it's true! I bet you've already lost a lot of inches...keep going and it'll happen! GOODLUCK!

You are so right... I have lost inches...People in my work say my body has already changed shape... my clothes are falling off of me. But I hope the weight starts to fall off again. I am glad I am down the 2 lbs that I gained because now I am at my lowest weight in like 5 yrs....

Thanks for the advice...

At mushy stage you can try eating some refried Beans with sour cream and cheddar or even chili that is blended up with the sour cream and cheddar. Try foods that have a little higher calorie count for now just to try to get more in. The tuna is great, but isn't helping you get your amounts in. Or, make the tuna into tuna salad by adding a little mayo and relish. Also, I realized I never answered the original question... at my 4 week appt post-op, I had lost 25 lbs.

hi there, like you i stopped losing and even gained a few back. i became very discouraged. but coming here helped. everyone is so knowledgable and kind. i know i am still in the healing phase and need to be patient. i am on soft/mushie foods right now. but my doctor said if i can cut it with a fork i can have it. i haven't had a fill as of yet so i have no restriction what so ever. nor do i have any bad reaction to any kind of food. my nutritionist was shocked. but i am trying to stick to my plan. i do get hungry between meals right now, that stinks. but it comes down to will power and hopefully i will start losing again soon. good luck to you.

I had my surgery on October 8th and at about two and half weeks out I had lost about 20 pounds and since then nothing. I dropped two more then the next day gained them back. I get my first fill this coming Monday and I am on solids now. Its so frustrating and I am hungry a lot of the time. They said something about once your stomach heals and the swelling goes down you will get hungry until your first fill. But honestly I am eating much healthier and far less than before and have no idea why I can't seem to drop anymore weight. In my life I have eaten more on regular diets and lost weight. If anyone knows what happens after the first fill I would like to know. Will it take care of the hunger? Will the protions become smaller again like they were soon after surgery?

Hello All,

I am experiencing the same thing! I was banded on 10/20 and have since lost about 9lbs. I am now on mushies and am at a total stand still!!!!!

Granted, I have been cheating a tiny bit and need to pull myself together. I am going to do better starting....NOW!

I treat everyday as a new opportunity to do well and succeed with the band. I am going shopping today and always find new motivation in new clothes. I need to get one sweat/jogging suit that I can wear while losing weight and one good dress that doesn't look frumpy as I lose more weight!!!! Macy's is have a good sale.

I will be back..... Great thread!!!! Keep the thoughts and motivation going.

It's so great to know that there are so many others going threw the same things i am. I was banded on Oct 1st. At my 2 week post op visit i had lost 15 lbs. I was so excited. Since then i have not lost one ounce. I went for my month check up on Nov 2nd and got a fill of 1cc. I was really hoping for more but my Doc wants to take it slow.

So since the fill i am still getting hungry between meals just like i have a bottom less pit. I'm scheduled for another fill on Dec 1st. I have started working out slowly and am trying to stay off the scales. lol

I hope we all pick up on the weight lost. Good luck to all.

Hang in there, hon. You're doing great! I too have completely stopped losing. I had my surgery the day before yours as you know, band buddy ;-)

I've lost 15 since surgery--nothing since and I'm on 600 calories per day (mushies). My belly growls constantly. I heard somewhere that means I'm healing which is great, but I don't see the doc to determine whether or not I need a fill on 12/8 (it was November 30, but moved twice because of work commitments....grrrr).

Hang in there. We will get through this and start losing again!!!

Well, here's one more in the same boat! My scale has been stuck on 215 since about 1 week after surgery. :sad:I have been exercising DAILY and eating really well. Hunger only happens if I wait more that 5 hours between lunch & dinner. I have no problems eating anything.

I started tracking everything I was eating on 'my daily plate' and that's when I realized that I am only getting in 800 calories on a good day. :bored:I think I entered caveman mode. My body thinks I am in a famine and is hanging on to everything it gets, hence the stuck scale! For 2 days now I have increased my calories to 1200. I think the scale WANTS to go down but we'll see.... I'll test my theory & let you know!

Hang in there!

Please do keep us updated. Sometimes people think you must starve to lose, but many times it is the opposite. As long as you are adding foods that are nutritious, most people will lose at 1200 per day. I eat 1200-1500 every day. My weight loss is very slow now and I should add exercise, but I am still losing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
