December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

Today is my second day post-op. I still have soreness in my abdominal area but it is less than it was yesterday. The beginning of last night I was so uncomfortable because I had to try to find a new way to sleep. (I usually sleep on my stomach) I did buy a travel size pillow to help with my stomach discomfort before hand and it works. I'm not really hungry but i do have to tell myself to go the bathroom to pee. Is anyone else experiencing that? The thing that hurts the most is my throat!!!

Good Luck to all!!!

Well all I'm Officially Banded. I had my surgery Friday the 18th at 12:00Pm everything went well my Sergent said I did great with the liquid diet. I was so nervous about having the surgery until I got that cocktail from the anesthesiologist I woke up in recovery at 2:05pm . I have pain at my port site it only hurts when I breathe to deep and cough. Good luck to everyone getting the Band.

Well I think I over did it yesterday. My port site is pretty sore today. But I can't get over how yummy applesauce tastes. It is a weird feeling to have my tummy growling, but I don't feel hungry. I am actually having to force myself to eat and drink. And taking sips of Water is difficult too. I'm not use to that.

Hello all my December Delights!

For those who have been recently banded...did your surgeon put the band in, unfilled? I'm just curious....mine put my band in that way. It has a little Water in it, but not even close to 1cc. Were/are you able to eat pretty good on a pureed stage? I just feel like food and liquids are going down like normal...not stopping in the little pouch.... =/

I did for a while have to make myself go to the bathroom and drink/eat. It gets better! My throat was sore for days too, and it was almost as if I had a sinus infection...sorry, TMI and gross...

Take care hon!!!

I am eating applesauce and a little greek yogart here and there. I use the applesauce to take my crushed pills. The doc's office said to mix them with Water but that tasted sooooooooo bad that I almost puked. So I tried the applesauce and it was better. I did have all the Fluid removed from my band though due to nausea. It seems to be fine with me but everyone's different.

Congrats to everyone banded thus far!!:wink2:

I only have 8 more shakes to go before surgery!!:thumbup:

Thank goodness, that's all I've been having; that and SF popsicles but they still have 45 calories so I'm really careful with those. Dr. wants me on 500 calories a day (2 shakes that's it). Isn't that just nutty? I said forget that, 300 is technically starvation so I toss in another shake. Wooo...an extra 180 calories and I feel guilty. This pre-op diet has me nutso I swear. But I haven't cheated at all and I've lost 14-16lbs (my scale reads 2 lbs less than dr's office :smile2:).

Does anyone have a list of "mushies" they eat or plan to eat? I am seriously fantasizing about mushies. LOL Dr. wants me on clear liquid diet for 4 weeks post op. Can you believe it! Oy vey.

Banded - don't remember most of it, besides being annoyed with the anatheisiologist before and then the nurse after... Went home, my mom came and got me a few hours later.. Was sore and burpy all day, liquid loritab keeps me knocked out. Gas-x strips are your friend as well as your heating pad.

I slept in a recliner, where I felt most comfortable. Throat and shoulder pain comes and goes, over all it feels like a super intense upper body/stomach workout.

I woke up at 2:22 this morning feeling about 90%, today I'm feeling 92-93%, getting there... Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

Welcome to the December group. We need a group name. It will be fun to follow everyone in the Dec. group..hugh? Any suggestions on a group name?
Hi every one, I was just banded yesterday. I am feeling good, just a bit sore, like I over did it on the sit ups. It has been a delight to hear everyone's experiences and how similar they r to mine.

lpglarry - I was on just Water the day of surgery. The next day i could have some Jello. I am now 2 days out and I am allowed mushy foods. For lunch I blended up some chilli. It was actually pretty good.

My biggest problem is not drinking while I am eating. And it is hard remembering to not gulp what I am drinking.

I mainly over did it yesterday by just moving around too much.

Tonight should be interesting. It is the first of many Christmas parties we have to go to. My grandma is making me mashed potatoes since I wont be able to have much of what they are eating.

sorry to bring folks down but I have to vent... been on my liquid diet since Tuesday..my husband and I are at the movies and when we got here, not only did he get popcorn which I LOVE, he looks at me and says "do ya want anything?" and then laughs! what a jerk!

BE STRONG GIRL...YOU CAN DO IT!!! I also started my liquid diet on Tuesday & it has been rough.:smile2: I thought I was doing better today until I just watched my husband & son eat Monical's pizza.:wink2: Keeping the end goal in mind is the only thing keeping me on track right now. I also keep telling myself the only way to avoid food completely would be to lock myself in a room...which crossed my mind more than a few times, but not logical. lol We can do this together!!! Is your surgery on Dec 29th?

Wow every doc is different on the post-op diets from what I am reading. And there are huge differences too! I wonder why that is? Mine: days 1,2 liquids including Protein Shakes, 3,4 soft and 5 advance as tolerated. The 4 week liquids or 4 week pureed sound punishing.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
