My surgery is Monday and I am excited and scared. This is my last weekend to be a "fluffy" person. I am looking forward to this new journey in my life. I hope the surgery goes smooth and they remember NO surgical tape as I am highly allergic!

Kelly! Good luck on Monday. We are one week apart, I had mind done on 1/11. I know you will be home and feeling like new in no time. Just tell every person you meet that you have that allergy and repeat it till they are sick of hearing it. I'm sure with constant reminding, there shouldnt be a problem.

I myself am allergic to all antibiotics and made sure everyone knew it. However, my surgeon wouldn't operate on me without using one just during surgery. We decided to try one that I hadn't taken before and sure enough about 8 hours after surgery I started showing signs of the allergy. Red puffy hot face and arms. I was on benadryl for a few days following surgery and am feeling much better now. Oftentimes I'm sure the benadryl makes me feel worse than the allergic reaction.

Again BEST OF LUCK on Monday and check in and let us know how you are doing when you can.

I had my surgery yesterday morning and it went great! The hospital staff was wonderful and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I was in a lot of pain when I first woke up in the recovery room and wondered what I had gotten myself into, but it got much better once I was in my regular room and got up and walked around. I had surgery at 9:30am and left the hospital by 3:00pm. Last night went pretty well but I did have a hard time sleeping since I had to sleep on my back. Today I'm a lot more sore, but it's mainly gas and feels like I did 1000 sit ups! I can't believe the surgery is done! I am so excited to get started on this new journey! Are most of you on a clear liquid diet for a few days and then full liquids for the next 2 weeks? I'm a little weak today but I'm sure that's due to the very few calories I've had. Good luck to everyone! I love all of the support on this site!! :w00t: Feel free to contact me if you have any questions on my procedure, etc!!!

Congrats on the surgery! I know that you are excited and I am so glad to hear that all went well. The pain gets better, I promise, just move around and take your meds. I had surgery on the 4th and I still can't believe that it is done. It is amazing! Good luck on the rest of your journey, wish I could help on the liquid thing, but my doctor only required it for 5 to 8 days, that time flew by.

I have a few questions for those several days out from surgery.

Although I feel good pain wise with just some minor gas and neck pain from time to time, I wake up in the middle of the night with bad rumbling gas...very odd. Anyone else?

Also...Is anyone else just tired...like beat? I have to lay down and rest for an hour each day. Several times a day I feel as though my legs just wont carry me any further. Going up and down steps, I get so tired I have to sit down immediately. I know this will get better...but I'm 5 days out and thought I should be feeling back to normal by now.

Anyone have any ideas/comments on this?

Thanks in advance!

Claricey

Hello, my surgery is in 10 days I am about to start the liquid diet, getting really nervous and emotional for everything. Today I snap on my work for something that was not a dig deal. I got to go outside to avoid yelling at everybody... I am really calm and I work well under stress but today i was a different me... I hope this count down goes fast and I can start my new life. I glad I found this group. I am exited to be part of the bandsters =)

Hello Claricey,

I got banded 1-11-10, and yes I still get tired easily. I went to the mall the other day so I can walk around, but I got tired easily and had to sit down. But I feel I get stronger each day.

I also get that rumbling gas feeling at night....but it's more of a hungry feeling.

What I do notice now is this - my hyperacidity is gone! Before the operation, one of my problems is really bad hyperacidity. But now, I don't feel it anymore. And I do burp a lot lately.....really big burps! HAHA

Hi Claricey,

Nice to meet ya! I too am having the gas thing and the night time gas rumbling, I am still trying to figure out if I am hungry or if it's just gas. I really haven't had much pain any other way, but I have had a little issue with sleeping at night... seems I can't get to sleep here lately.

I was banded on Monday January 11th 2010. The surgery went well and they said that I sailed through with flying colors. Three days later I developed a fever and diahrrea -called the surgeon and they recommended that I go to the closest ER. After an x-ray, Cat scan and blood work the diagnosis was colitis. Apparently the antibiotics given during surgery kill everything including the good bacteria in the body. They went ahead and admitted me and treated the infection with antibiotics and IV fluids to keep me from becoming dehydrated. After 2 days my labs came back normal and they sent me home today. Has anyone else ever had this issue? I'm curious if it is common.

Hey Tabitha...welcome to the group. I was banded on Jan. 12 and did a nine day liquid diet, and I think that period with no real food (exc. 3 times I screwed up slightly) has helped me since surgery . . . was on two days clear liquid, then clear/full liquid, for three, and tomorrow starts pureed/soft for 7-10 days....YOO HOO!! Never thought I'd be this excited about such!! Take care and do post often....hearing from others helps me lots!

Hello everyone from Australia!

I am having my surgery tomorrow - going in at 7am. It has taken me 18 months to finally agree to have surgery. I am current 205 (93kg) with a goal of 127 (58kg).

Hello - banded on Thurs, 14 Jan.

Excited but still feeling very hungry. On slightly thicker liquids a couple of times a day (yoghurt, blended soup) to deal with the hunger, and drinking lots of Water.< /p>

Port site and stitches tender. Would love to have a good long soak - but will have to wait till stitches are out.

Looking forward to losing (more) weight and having a fill to diminish the hunger..........................

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
