Anyone who has been banded for over ayear suddenly get very tight without provocation

Recommended Posts

I was banded a little over a year ago and have lost 95 pounds. I haven't had a fill for probably 4 months....I am currently at 7.9cc in a 10cc band and just all the sudden, out of the blue, I am having trouble even swallowing liquids. It does go down but not not without sitting for a second or 2 or 3. I haven't had a true stuck episode in months then 2 nights ago this started happening. I don't know what is going on.....has anyone had this happen?

I started with a little acid reflux like feeling and have never had any problems. Luckily I was scheduled for a routine barium swallow and it showed that I was too tight. My surgeon attributed it to the post nasal drip I had which was irritating the pouch. Unfilled now for a week and then will get all my fill back. First time I have had an unfill. I was at 10 in a 14cc band.

I have had this same problem. I'll be ok for a couple of weeks, and then suddenly too tight. It really does seem to be completely related to my menstrual cycle.

I've asked about this at my doc's, they say that sometimes it happens (getting suddenly too tight) for no apparent reason.

Fickle Band Syndrome.

Have you had your one year EGD to have your band checked out? If not, it would probably be a good idea to have it done now. Good luck to you. I'm about due for mine, but I'm self pay and wondering where I'll get the money since I've had a ton of unexpected medical bills this yr.

Yep I had the same problem. I started getting night reflux, had some fill removed. I was fine for a few weeks, then same problem, had more fill removed. Ended up having fill removed about 4 times over 7 months or so. But then I was at the stage where I was hungry and could eat too much! I'm just in the process of having fill put back in again now to get back to the sweet spot. The doc said he had no reason as to why it seems harder to get the right balance towards the end of your journey as opposed to during. Just one of those things I guess!

You really need to get that checked out, especially since you're having trouble with liquids. The first thing I'd want to rule out is a band slip. If you catch it early, often times just an unfill for a couple of weeks and it will correct itself. It could be nothing more than a fickle band, but with it being a sudden onset, I'd want my doctor to take a look at my band.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
