Missing food, but not the weight

Recommended Posts

I had my band surgery on the 18th of March. I am really happy that I have lost weight and overcome some health issues I had. I can now wear normal clothes and no longer have to visit the plus size section.

While I am thrilled with my weight loss I really miss eating certain food. I go to a University that is surrounded around good food. I can not eat bread nor hamburgers and really miss eating them. I know that I should be happy and forever forget about burgers but just wonder if others have that emotional sadness of not having certain foods. Wondering are there others who feel the same way

but a good high quality burger without the bun and a little A1 is heavenly...lol

you can enjoy a lot of your favorite foods, it just takes time and creativity

I don't think any of us who got banded intended to never again have our favorite foods. It is a matter of moderation. You have had fantastic weight loss! Unless you are the type of person that cannot quit once you start down a bad eating path, then I don't see why you cannot have a burger now and then. You may not be able to eat all of it due to your stomach size but you can maybe get the taste with a few bites. I wouldn't deprive myself forever just because you have the band.

I cant eat the bread and that's whats devastating... I usually don't deprive myself, its just wanting what I can no longer have like Steak... my band wont allow it!

hi sweet,

i thought the same thing...recently i got totally unfilled and now i can eat anything. i cant stuff anything down like the old days but i really dont want to anyway.

having not eaten many of my favorite things for 3 years (ie. salad, eggs, etc) i now can eat them and dont want to give this up. it is helping me to appreciate good foods. i am not craving crap like i used to. it's the reverse of the old days.

dont worry you will probably get everything back one day!

my worry was subway sandwiches..i loved subway and now i can eat it. i just dont want it anymore ha!

good luck

josie

I completely understand! What is wierd for me, though, is that if someone brings cake to work and I see a big yummy slice of choc cake I will cut a piece off and have every intention of splurging and eating it....and after about two bites I don't even want it. I just needed that taste and to know that I can have it, you know what I mean? I don't miss bread too much - sometimes I can eat a small burger from McDonald's with only the bottom bun....sometimes not, it's wierd. Thus far I haven't found anything that I cannot somehow eat a few bites of to take care of my head craving - as my body doesn't seem to crave much of anything anymore, thankfully! Especially sugar - how nice it is to not have sugar having a hold of me!

Hang in there - we are on a journey --- and it is most definately worth every trial and temptation we have to endure along the way! Keep up the good work!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
