I know it varies by person and I've seen snippets here and there but I am just wondering there are some things that you have found that you cannot eat. Just want to start thinking about eating with the band, the right way!

:biggrin: hmmm i've only been banded for 2 weeks and havent had any problem eating any cooked veggies or scrambled eggs. i hurled the first time last night when i snuck a piece of beef quesadilla. i think i'll stay away from tortillas for a while ;( the only thing that i have to say is listen to your body! when you feel the tightness, STOP EATING! (or stop before it gets to that point, but for me, it just doesnt take much to get there, so i wait to feel it!) the burps are a great release... the hiccups make me think i'm going to puke any minute.

Hiccups are the first sign for me something is stuck and it is coming back up. Just remember everyone chew chew chew and small bites. Me PBing is my fault 95% of the time. I forget to chew everything up good enough and I will sometimes still eat to fast. I am not sure how to stop myself from it. It's been at habit for 34 years, what do some of you do to keep from eating so fast?

It's funny how we're all different. Some people can eat some things that other people can't eat.

Here's my list of never-again foods:

bread (though I can do toast)

white flour tortillas (though I can do the low-carb version)

white rice (though I can do brown)

Pasta (of any kind)

cooked brocollli (though raw is fine)

romaine lettuce (though I eat lots of shredded iceberg)

Other than that, I can eat all meats, eggs, and cheese. I am fine on most fruits though I have not tried pineapple. I am fine on most veggies but at my doc's suggestion, I have not tried spinach or asparagus.

You'll find through trial-and-error what works and what doesn't, and your body will change over time and you may be able to add something back that you thought you'd have to do without. I'm only 3 months post surgery, but I will try anything once to see how my band tolerates it. I have only PB'd twice, and both times were on bread or doughy things.

I can't eat flour tortillas, soft bread, most potatoes, anything that is very doughy, I can eat rice in small quantities with sauce or other items, all meat seems to be ok, as long as it is not dry, some chewey pasta is a bit hard to eat. Also chewey cheese is not a good thing! It is a learning experience and seems to change at times depending on if I am tight or loose at any given point.

I can't eat any bread, Pasta, Rice, or Tirtillas. Some foods that i can eat one day the next day i may not be able to do. Its just so funny!

I only have a few things that I have problems with. Really dense breads(bagels are out), spaghetti and stringy pastas(but I can have other pasta that I can really chew well), sticky rice, and tough meats.

But other than those few things I can eat just about anything but everyone is different because I love eggs. Also, all doctors are different because I eat all the things on that list from your doctor except tough meat and sticky rice, fluffy rice I can handle. So once you have your surgery you will have to find out for yourself the things that bother you. Ohhhhh I almost forgot I don't much broccoli anymore not because I can't chew it well, it now gives me too much gas (TMI).

Please do not go on this one person's experience. I am 8 months out and I have never PB'd. I pay attention to what I'm eating, small bites and chew, and stop before I get full.

The only things I have trouble with (and note this is not PB'ing, my stomach just hurts when I eat them) are popcorn and fruit skin. Other than that, I've been fine.

I totally agree. I've PB'd many times and it's all 'operator error' (I'm a slow learner) and if you read the other posts carefully they're saying that too. I've got great restriction now and if I'm careful there's nothing that is off limits for me. I have no hunger between meals, but I'm not so tight I have to puree or drink my meals. Remember, how tight you want to be is a matter of choice. I hope to never get to the point that I have a list of foods I can't eat...I need a lifestyle change that I can live with...so far, so good!

I am only 6 weeks out and so I haven't tried a ton of things yet, but here is my list so far.

Bananas

Watermelon

Bread

Lettuce

Potatoes

Dry Rice - Risotto / Wet Spanish type rice ok.

Fruit Skin - specifically pears, so bad.

cheese

Thick oatmeal / Grits

White chicken - Dark meat is fine, I struggle with white meat. Too dry I think.

I have only PBed once and I think it cured me. Everything I have listed I have eaten slow and steady and it just didn't go down well or did get stuck a bit, and I haven't been brave enough to try again.

Currently waiting to get my first fill and I am dying for it. I want to feel like I did after surgery. I am fighting the Head Hunger and the Stomach Hunger and it sucks.

The ONLY thing at almost 13 months I've found that gives me trouble is soft chicken skin. (sounds gross huh?) I mean, for example, if the chicken is baked. Or if it is barbequed but the skin isn't super crisp. I can eat fresh fried chicken fine...and DRY chicken. Just not the skin from chicken unless it's cooked very crisp.

Since chicken skin is just mostly fat I figure it's no big loss and as I've said, if it's breaded or fried I'm good (go figure) Otherwise, white bread, rice, Pasta, pizza, dry chicken, red meat (as long as it's well done) all are fine. Fresh fruit...fine. My pills...fine. Just soft chicken skin.

I can live with that.

And a note: the band journey is a personal one. However for newbies reading this; the point is NOT to be so restricted that you can't eat anything but mush. The point is to eat less, eat healthy, and lose weight. How you interpret that is up to you (and your doc) but it doesn't generally mean living on Protein shakes from now on.

I am 7 months out and can eat anything. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I have restriction, can feel things if I'm eating too fast, but I've never pb'd or had anything get stuck. I chew, chew, chew, put my fork down between bites. I say "things" because it's hard to describe what I feel, but it's enough to let me know that I'd better watch it!

I'm about 5 months out. I have not tried bread yet or pasta, I've had a very small amount of rice. So far I can eat pretty much anything. Sometimes I have trouble with chicken if I don't chew it well or if I take to big of a bite. Had a hard time once with steak but again I did not chew it well and it was a little well done. I agree with the other posters everyone is different. I have never really PB'd but I have been stuck from chicken. I had my surgery in April and have never puked once.

I'm just curious -why would I not be able to ear pineapple? It's my fav fruit and I've never heard this before. Please tell me why?
