October 2009 Surgery Date?

Recommended Posts

Well here is my update.

The surgery was canceled at the very last minute. My husband was all gowned up, IV in, they had given him all his meds (not the anesthesia yet) And a nurse came in and said the Dr. has ordered some blood work. OK, odd so they drew some blood we waited about 1/2 hour then they came in with results, said his sodium was low, his sugar high and his white blood cells elevated so they needed to cancel.

It was an emotionally exhausting day we were at the hospital at 7am and didn't get home till 3pm. Now we are in limbo, the dr's want to check his past medical records and run some more tests. We will re schedule but for when we don't know.

My husband might wind up with my surgery date unless they can get him in sooner. I started my liquid diet today so if I am postponed it will be wasted. Also my husband is still on a liquid diet till they can re evaluate.

It really was a great catch because low sodium can lead to heart attacks and stroke so elective surgery was not a good idea.

I swear I love this team at UCSD they are so on top of everything and so advanced, but that goes with any "research institute".

Anyway so LONG story short right now we are both cranky and on liquid diets and have no idea what is next. The only good thing is that we trust our team so we will see.

Hi friends-

Has anyone been thinking of a therapist, specifically cognative therapy? I'm not big on the idea but it seems that the band is just one part of a larger life change...

Hope all is great!

Hi momof3,

My surgery date is also on 10/19 @ 2:00. Can't wait! However, I, too am getting worried about this liquid diet that starts on Monday. All I know is if I miss a meal currently, I get a headache and very cranky. I sure hope that's not the case for the next two weeks. Good luck to both of us!

That is exactly what happens to me! that is why I was so worried! I was suppose to start on Monday as well but I chose to start on the weekend so my coworkers wouldn't have to worry about my crankiness! (just my kids have to deal with it!! hahaha-payback time!!!:))

October 8 -- and starting to get nervous. Thank you all for your optimism. I was feeling a little blue earlier and your words have cheered me up!

My Dr requires a two-week liquid diet and the literature I was given says to expect 1-2 lbs weight loss per day. I'm on day 10 and my weight loss stalled at 9 lbs two days ago. A little disheartening when you're only consuming around 450 calories per day!

That said, if you have to do the liquid diet, give "Any Whey" Protein Powder a try. One scoop = 17g Protein, 1g carbs, 0g fat, 70 cal. It really has no detectable taste (ignore the fact that the dry powder smells like vanilla) and imparts a creaminess without adding fat. Add it to drinks, shakes, Soups or plain Water (may require a clothespin).

Coffee Lovers: One scoop of Any whey and a shot of sugar free Torani Syrup added to black coffee makes a pretty palatable substitute for "prohibited coffee drinks". Two of these make a satisfying "breakfast".

Good luck to us all!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
