Six weeks and just starting to lose

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was banded on 6/29, just the band, no fill. I have just started taking weight off this week . I lose between 1/2 to 1 pound a day.

I am posting this because I know some people get upset when the weight does not start to come off immediately. After your body has been through trauma it needs time to heal. At this time it holds on to all of the calories it can so weight loss is slowed. It's a self preservation response.

I teach science so in my head I knew what was going on but I still doubted if I would ever see the scale move. I have been on so many diets that did not work that I believe it was a natural response. I eat pretty much whatever I want just much less of it. I still get full and remain full for quite some time so I am not ready for a fill. I do plan to go for a fill at the end of September. I live in NJ and I was banded in Mexico so it's no small trip for me. By then I will probably need a fill and some time away from the job!!!!!

So, those of you newly banded, if you are not losing as quickly as you would like remain patient, it will happen.

Petra, thank you for posting that. I'm newly banded (8/3) and I started mushies this week. I've gained back 2 lbs and I'm barly eating anything! I think I've read other people having the same thing happen.

Thank you for your words and best of luck to you! Glad the scale is moving in the "right" direction :)

Thanks for your post, Petra. I have been on puree food for 4 days and gained a pound. My doc told me ahead of time not to be surprised if I gain weight when I introduce food back into my system after 4 weeks of liquid, but it's still frustrating.

It's good to know that it will come off eventually!

Like you, I am not hungry either. I eat my half a cup of food (ok sometimes 6 oz) three times a day and that's it. I guess I just thought because I was eating so little that I would lose weight. But I guess after 4 weeks of liquid my body is holding on to all the calories it can.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
