Typical LC meal

Recommended Posts

With a busy schedule what is your typical daily low carb meal and how many times a day do you eat?

I have been out for awhile and time to get back in the game.

Hi there. I have done low carb on and off since I was banded and I do very well on a low carb diet. I'm not sure exactly what kind of low carb diet you are on...Atkins, South Beach, etc. I "try" to keep my carbs around 30 a day and I also try to limit my fatty Proteins and keep it lean.

Here are some things I eat while low carbing

Typical Breakfast foods-

a low carb shake

South Beach Diet cinnamon raisin Protein bar (tastes like a cinnamon roll)

glass of milk (Hood has a milk called Calorie Countdown that only has 3g carbs per serving, or 5g in the chocolate milk)

a scrambled egg

Lunch-

tuna or chicken salad (I use Tostitos spinach dip instead of mayo...it's tasty, lower in calories and fat, but still low carb)

turkey wrap (use a low carb tortilla)

salad (again, I use the spinach dip mixed with a little LC milk...makes a good dressing)

Dinner-

Baked chicken breasts- I eat chicken breasts a lot. Sometimes I bake it or put it in the crock pot. One of my favorites is chicken breast baked in the oven with salsa poured over it. As long as you don't go overboard with the salsa, it's pretty low carb. I like a little sour cream with it too. This can be done in the crock pot too.

Walmart has good stuffed chicken breasts in the frozen section. I believe there are 4 or 5 different kinds. I think it's Sam's Choice brand. Each having about 6 or 7 carbs.

Green Beans, salad, steamed broccoli with a little cheese, and spaghetti squash are some of my favorite sides.

I posted a crock pot meatloaf that turned out really good. Here's the link --> http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/shredded-cabbage-meatloaf-99257/

I don't know if you use the crock pot for cooking, but I have a low carb cookbook that has a good "sauce" for meat in the crock pot. Chicken, short ribs, pork chops, etc. would work well with it. Mix 1-8oz can plain Tomato sauce, 3/4 c. Water, 2 tbsp cidar vinegar, 4 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tsp splenda, and 1 chopped onion and pour over meat. Cook on low until done. I personally LOVE my crock pot and for someone with a busy schedule, it is a lifesaver.

If you have a specific low carb food you would like the recipe to, I'd be happy to look in my cookbook and see if I can find it. Just let me know. Hope this has helped you. Best of luck to you.

Hi Joe and others;

Like you I have had my ups and downs with the scale since banding.

After the 1st year I kinda got stuck between 178 & 180 for a whole year. My bandster friends have been a great example for me and currently I am 'back on track' and losing.

NOw its only been a week, but I feel like I am in better control. I hate to admit it but I had to say GOODBYE to my Sugar!!!

I am eating the SOUTHBEACH way, although the first 3 days I did Atkins = no carbs... just meat/poultry/fish & green veggies only....

I got the cravings out of my head and now I am researching everyday for lowcarb recipes, but high enough in protien that I am satisfied.

For the longest time I kept telling myself that "my band is NOT working".... well this past week has proved the opposite.

The BAND works fine, "I" am not working WITH the Band... get it????

I use spark people.com to track everything I eat and then you can plunk in any recipe and tweek the ingredients and IT will figure out all the nutritional value - so that you can keep your CARBS to a minimum...

I've lost 4 lbs in the last 6 days, so I am encouraged.

I beg you to do the same, YOU CAN DO IT....:frown:

hi everyone - thanks for all the information you've posted. I am not sure if anyone can help with this but I'll give it a go, I'm having terrible problems keeping any meat, poultry or fish down, it feels horribly painful and in the end I vomit (sorry to be gross). My question is this - how long does it take you to eat, say 2-3oz of tuna, I tried chewing and chewing and waiting 30 seconds for my next mouthful but maybe I need to be waiting much longer, say 5 minutes between each mouthful. One thing I did notice was that drinking a hot cup of tea sometimes helped. I have lost almost 100lbs since being banded last August and now I'm stuck and I still have about 50lbs to go and low carbing I think is the only way I'm going to get it shifted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ShereeKim,

You should not be having that much trouble with meats and vomiting. Have you discussed it with your doctor?

A typical low carb day for me:

Breakfast :scrambled egg with cheese

OR yogart with berries

Lunch: grilled chicken salad with ranch or an "unwich" from Jimmy John's (a lettuce wrapped sub).

Supper: lean meat, fish, or poultry with low carb veggies

I also have 2 Snacks which might consist of flax seed muffins, or low carb cheese cake, or yogart and berries.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
