Anyone in Galveston County Texas or Dr. Spivak's patient?

Suportive family that will really help you. And if you work I would take about 4 days off if you can. I asked for surgery day and 2 day after that but I really needed surgery day and about 4 days after that. But every night I walked about twenty minutes with my husband after dark. We have a very long driveway and it was dark and I walked in my PJ's with a pillow held against my stomach for twenty minutes. That is when I lost the most 9 lbs in first week with most of it being when I was on liquids. I am one month out now and have lost 17 lbs, but hope it picks up after fill tomorrow. I am a bit nervous about that.

Be sure to bring a pillow to the hospital for the ride home cause you can hold it against you tummy in the car and it helps so much.

I will definitely bring a pillow with me. I have read on alot of the posts that that really helps. I'm currently not working. I go to school full time. My surgery is on the 18th and my classes start again on the 24th. That is going to be interesting since I'm not supposed to lift more than 20 pounds for two weeks. lol

Yea, the pillow was great and I read it here too. I have learned alot from these message boards. I have a 3 year old granddaughter and she hated it when I could not pick her up for the 2 weeks.

If you don't have small kids it will make it easier. But some of those College books together can weigh alot.

I think by the 24th you will be feeling good, just drink plenty so you will feel good.

How much are you trying to lose? You do not have to answer if too personal. I am trying to lose 100 lbs total or more. Nobody but my husband and surgeon know how much I weigh. I too am pretty private except on these boards I feel a little free since nobody knows who we are.

I am planning to lose at least 100 pounds. I don't have any small children. The youngest is 11 and he's a big help. When we go to the grocery he always tries to carry the heavier bags for me because that's what his dad does. I think it's so cute.

An Eleven year old will be a big help. I only had on child a boy so I am so used to boys stuff, he played baseball since T-Ball all the way through 4 years of Varsity during High school. Them . . . came this little cute grandaughter who loves everything pink and so girly, dolls and dresses and bows? Wow what a change! But I love it. I have a 3 year old and a 2½ month old little grandbabies both girls.

How do I add you as a friend or something so I can talk to you again sometime. Do you know? I have enjoyed talking to you and would like to keep in touch with you as we go through this process if that is okay with you. Sorry if I have talked you ear off.

I live in your neck of the woods as well - in Santa Fe off of FM 2004. I am scheduled to have surgery this Friday and am starting to wonder if I am making the right decision.

I work at UTMB and have heard horror stories about Dr. Gomez's fills. A couple of colleagues said that the pain is extremely excruciating. So be careful.

Yeah! Someone else not so far away. I love that there are people not too far away makes me feel not so alone in this process.

Maybe they should ask for something for pain I hear some people gets something on the skin to numb any pain. I used Dr. Spivak in Houston I am not sure what he does until I go tomorrow for my first fill.

Why are you questioning your Surgery? Can I help? I am new only one month out but maybe I can

When ever I go in to the doctors office I always try to talk with someone who is there for a fill. Everyone I've talked to is extremely happy with Dr. Gomez. No one has ever said anything to me about pain when they get a fill. They always say it's no big deal.

123crod,

Let me know how your first fill went today. :(

Well it was not bad at all. The Houston traffic was worst. They just weighed me and the I layed down and he checked out my scars. Asked me if I was ready for a fill? I said yes. He said this might pinch for just a minute and then it was done. He said he put 2ccs in and I walked across the hall to the x-ray(?) and he showed me my band and port and then made me drink that stuff and watched it go through the band and then drank some Water and watched. He said come back when you have lost another 15 lbs or call if you have any questions. One day of soft food and then to solids. That was it. Then back in the Houston traffic. It was pretty easy.

And funny but my port is not the side but about 2 inches down from my breast bone in the center at the top scar. I knew it was there but people said it would be lower and on the side. Not sure why and I did not ask. So do not let the fills stop you cause it was pretty easy.:(

Yep it's supposed to be on the 18th. The day surgery place was supposed to call me today between 12:30 and 1:00 and they didn't. I called them at about 3 and they told me that the girls were still making phone calls. It's freaking me out a bit that they didn't call when they said that they were going to. Now I have to wait til monday to see if I get a call then. If I don't get a call by noon I am going to call again.

God moved moutains He can get you a little surgery date!! You have all your food ready and overnight bag ready? I know you will be so happy when it is over. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and wonder if I dreamed the whole thing. I really do look at my scars some mornings. My meds make me have strange dreams alot.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
