Hello Band Goodbye Femininty

Recommended Posts

Just had to post this.. Got banded in September. Since then I now can belch/burp whatever you want to call it with the best of them. I am not proud of this at all. Here is the deal. These loud/long/deep suckers just pop up and out with no warning at the most inappropriate time. If you embarrass easy you may want to be aware. I don't mind it too much at home but my goodness anywhere else is not appropriate. Not ladylike at all. Suppose the upside is I am not PB! Gotta find the silver lining somewhere.

So if you are a southern belle or a woman of high society.. be prepared to lose the dignity and grace you have always known to have withyourself.. unless of course I am an anomaly? That would figure I would be the leader of the pack for this too in my life!

And for the men.. well I am sure this is just a good thing anyway a man looks at it.. Burping is part of obtaining and keeping your mancard.. right?

Maranda

P.s. if you live in the Hudson Valley and feel a small tremor in the earth.. its not a earthquake, one of the suckers slipped out again! OH MY!

I hadn't ready anything about burping yet and I was beginning to wonder if it was just me! It can be very emarrassing. Just tonight I had one of those instances. Everytime I think of it though, I remember why I did this and the weight loss makes it SOOOOO worth it to me.

I admit I don't go out to eat very often but it doesn't happen to me when I'm out. ALSO they don't pop out without me knowing. NOT that I think you are misrepresenting it...I just don't want someone to not get the band because of it. I was horrified about the burping and almost decided not to do it if I was going to be a gross embarassment at every restaurant!

Of course when I'm out I pick foods I KNOW I can eat (no experimenting in public LOL) and I take small bites, am VERY careful to chew like the dickens, and don't drink much. Maybe that helps.

At home, though, I've burped so much (especially after the last fill) that my husband now will burp and then say "I've got new restriction" LOL

It's not fun, but it's not worth passing on the band. And long timers say it subsides with time.

I do burp a lot since banding but luckily I know its going to happen so can stifle it and put a hand over my mouth. I am happy if burping is the price to pay for being thinner.

Far better than wind coming out of the other end- that is far more anti social

Passing gas is also very common. I have gotten used to the burping and can now feel it coming and do it with my mouth closed so it's not as loud.

The gas passing with no warning is the most embarrassing!

I have started taking beano with most meals.

I don't get the big burps, but I get constant loud growling/gurgling when I eat ... think sink clogged with food, then Water gradually draining through

When I do get (small) burps, it is a relief to be honest.

So, may I assume there is no end to this passing gas stuff if you are at goal and still having the problem??

I find that after almost 7 months I can control the burping and belching so it's not as noticeable, but the intestinal gas is another thing I never get used to or can seem to gain any control of. I pop a Beano with everything that goes in my mouth but that doesn't do much either. I've just started taking acidophilus to try to add friendly bacteria back into my digestive track, although yogurt doesn't help which it is supposed to do. In the past I've taken charcoal tablets for several months and that seemed to help but I worry about it blocking nutrition because of the little I can now eat. Fortunately it is just noisy and not smelly. I STILL LOVE MY BAND THOUGH AND WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN EVEN WITH TWICE THE EXPLOSIONS!!!!

ok so I am just sharing my experience here. I like many others LOVE LOVE LOVE MY BAND. This is something that I AM EXPERIENCING. I have had some of these slip out. Like when I am talking they just come out with very little to no notice. I had a fill about 6wks ago and noticed it moreso lately. It is a small thing that someone else may be going thru. I tried to add some humor to it. I highly doubt someone would not get the band based on my thread. The philsophy is the more you know the better educated you are. This is something that could happen. For example, I kept reading about the horrendous gas pain in the shoulders and chest. I was terrified of that. Guess what. NO gas pain none. Not even a little after the surgery. Did it make me want to not get the band. No, I was just aware this is something I might I have be prepared for. That is all I was trying to say in my thread.

I never had the gas pains after surgery either.

Gas now is another story. I have no clue why I have such horrible gas and it doesn't seem to matter what I eat.

I can only hope that with the new revision to sleeve surgery that I am getting, this will change things. I have never heard of people with the sleeve complaining of gas.

So, I am not banded YET, but you so need to come and live with my family.....

My good ol redneck hubby actually thinks it will be great to have burping contests with me, claiming I will have the advantage.. My two sons think its great to create any body noise, laugh their butts off no matter what. My precious princess daughter can out do her brothers!!!

However, because I cover my mouth and say "Excuse me", I still get to be the femimine one.....:rolleyes2:

I felt a shudder, no? lol

LOL - I find a burp more when I eat too much or too fast. Slowing down helps. As far as the other end goes I take GasX. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! I have 4 dogs who get the blame!

I too have the burping and gas. I'm over a year out now and it hasn't changed much. I remember telling my nutritionist about the gas a few months after surgery and she said it still could be the gas from surgery.....well a year later, I don't think it's the gas from surgery. I use those GasX strips that melt on your tongue, they work pretty good but not all the time. It's just something that some of us have to live with. And I agree with others that said, it's a small, small, small price to pay for getting healthier, losing weight and KEEPING the weight off ! I don't think there is anything that would make me regret having this surgery, for sure not some burping and gas passing! You learn how to control it....(or hide it).

And yes, oh it feels so good to get one of those burps out. Feels like 5 pounds of pressure has been lifted....haha.

Check with your doctor, you might have a hiatal hernia, that causes burping like that!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
