Dr. Olsofka. Started my pre-op liquid diet today! I'm really not supposed to start it until Weds., (surgery is next Weds., June 24) but I'm SO wanting to make sure that my liver shrinks enough!

My surgery is the 24th also and I'm on day 2 of the liquid diet! :bored:

I HAD MY surgery June 1st - the first week of liquids was real tough. I felt like i lost my best friends - my life was cooking, eating and going out to eat. Second week was better, I lost 7 lbs. the first week, then started adding food on my own before I went crazy. Joining WW this wednesday so I can see my weight loss before I go back to the doctors on the 24th.

Altho I am eating, I am eating very light - for instance, Breakfast a Protein drink - lunch crab salad, 1/2 cup, dinner 3oz burger only. At least I feel human

I had my surgery Friday June 12th. Today is my first day to feel pretty good. The gas has subsided tremendously! Thank goodness. I thought my tummy was going to explode. I have been able to drink Slim Fast shakes and they go down good. I also have some EAS chocolate flavor whey Protein Drink that I mix with skim milk. Other than that, just broth and clears so far.

Finally123, great job! So glad you are feeling "normal" again!

Phenry, great! I have seen the EAS pre-mixed in the stores (and I think costco carries them too?) But I was leery about getting them.

Do they taste okay? Or are you at the "I don't care about taste, just want to swallow something" stage?

Well tomorrow is my BIG day! So far liquid diet has been hard because my mother in law keeps talking to me about food and everything. The thing I hate the most is she told me that I should just stick to the liquid diet and forget the surgery. I mean really why do people say stuff like that before someone has committed themselves to do all this work. Talk about a total downer. I am SO hoping that this doesn't hurt much and I can get her out of my house asap! All I needed her to do was take my son to school the morning of surgery. Other than that I got it all covered.

Thanks for hearing my rants everyone. TO all you other bandsters having surgery this week, good luck and stay focused we can do this! We have gotten this far! Take care!

Tammy

Toptier!

Hi I have the EAS premade the french vanilla is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yummy! I have tried like 3 other Protein Shakes but this one I like a lot. My cousin told me to try the Muscle Milk lite he swears by it, and he is a body builder so it must be decent.

Hi Toptier! I bought the EAS powder at Target to try. It is pretty descent with skim milk...later I hope to add some yogurt maybe. The premixed sounds good! I will pick some up. Today I made some veggie beef Soup and strained the brooth off. It is so good! Finally something with some simularity of real food! LOL!

I am scheduled to have surgery tomorow and woke up sick (sore throat, runny nose) this morning. I don't know wether I should call the dr about it or not. I don't want to do nothing that is going to jeopordize the surgery, but I don't want to get to the hosp and then get told I have to reschedule. Do I just tuff it out hoping I will feel better tomorow morning or call the dr today? This is so disappointing.

Oh Mandie....I am so sorry :frown:you are not feeling well. Do you have a temp??

Are you feeling any better now?? You do not want to have the surgery if you are sick. Plus, you can be assured that if you go to the hospital and are ill....they will not do it.

What time does your doctors office close?? Maybe you can get in to see him and let him make the decision.

Keep us posted and Good Luck!!!

Thanks, I called the dr, she said that it should be ok, she will draw blood when I get to the hospital tomorow to make sure my white cell count is ok. She said lets hope it's allergies, I know it's not though. The dr don't want to have to reschedule the surgery as this is the first Realize Band she is going to be doing, so she has to have a extra big team and a few special people be there tomorow, so rescheduling is not going to be easy. The dr told me to drink alot of gatorade, I thought gatorade has alot of sugar, don't that defeat the purpose of the 2 week diet then?

I am scheduled to have surgery tomorow and woke up sick (sore throat, runny nose) this morning.

I'm a vegetarian and I don't drink a lot of dairy. The shakes the doc wanted me to drink where based on whey (dairy) Protein. I actually got thrush (yeast infection) from the shakes. Look in the mirror, do you have a whitish film on your tongue? If not, most likely not thrush. May just be pre-surgery stress.

Hope you feel better

Thanks, it's not Thrush. I think I am catching something, but my dr really thinks it's allergies, I know my body, so we will see tomorow when she takes the blood to check the white cells. I just hope and pray that the surgery don't have to be rescheduled. My husband has been counting the days down for me. Lol. All I can do it wait and see what happens tomorow. Yuk.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
