Well, I survived the surgery. The doctor found a hernia that he repaired while inside and I wonder if that added to my discomfort. I was miserable until this morning. My surgery was June 17th. My misery is more emotional. I am very weepy, nervous, scared about my recovery. I did get to sleep more last night which has helped and I get to shower today!!!! I am going to concentrate on just taking it one day at a time for now.

Best wishes to everyone with surgery dates coming up soon!

Sally

Banded 6/17/2009:blink:

Well I do hope that you feel better how was the care you received post surgery?

Were you discharged the following day, etc? Please share more...my date is July 2nd...and I am happy everything worked out well for you.

Iris

I was discharged the same day actually, we watched Wheel of Fortune in the hospital then got discharged. So far this is day 2, I have really had no gas pains, I have some gurgling in my stomach that tickles a bit. I thought it was because I was hungry, but sometimes it was getting gas out. My husband had me Gas X on hand so I can take it when the gurgling started. This morning when I got out of bed was the easiest yet. I had so much pain and the pain meds didn't kick in right away after I took it this time, so in the time waiting for it to kick in me and my husband went to Walmart at 4am. LOL. Things for me has been going smooth. I am drinking alot of Crystal Light, Gatorade, I have ate broth, Jello and applesauce and sugar free popcycles. All in all I think it is going to be a easy recovery. I just hate the part I can't walk too much as on the 2nd of this month I had surgery on my achelis tendon and in walking boot. But all in all it will be a great recover I forsee. Sorry about banter on.

Sally...how do you get to shower so soon? My Doc told me two weeks! I have staples...did you get something different?

I only had to wait 48 hours before I could shower. Felt great too!!

I am so jealous! I would love a shower right now. I have gauze pads over my incisions, so no way. The doc said to wait two weeks, so two weeks it is.

Hi Ya'll, Had my banding yest. at 10 am and I am out of the hospital today, back at the motel and just got back from the grocery store. Kathy is going to VIPS to eat, darn her. It is sort of a Mexican version of City Cafe for anyone in the Chattanooga/Atlanta area.

I had a big surprise when I woke up. They told me I had a hernia that the doctor repaired while he was inside. When the doc came round to see me, he told me it was a very large hernia and my whole stomach was going up above my diaphragm.:)

I do not know how the doc that took the old lap band out could have missed it. Dr. Zapata said when they are really large like that, they are harder to detect than a smaller one.

Well all I know is that is a scary thought for my lungs to have to share their space with my stomach.

Anyhow I have got my brand spankin' new Realize band and the doc said he had no problems with the surgery at all, that my liver was "Little Bitty." Finally something on me is "Little Bitty" besides my boobs, lol!:)

Good luck to everyone.

Corliss

I am an md who just got banded on june 18th. I am two days post op. Some soreness. Pain pills help except for the supratentorial effects.. Gas x simethicone strips are very helpful.:) Try compazine or phenergan for nasuea. Can I say that beef broth sucks, but chicken not so bad. :unsure:What does seem to amaze me is the differences in some of the post op diets i have read about. I do have a question anybody have any suggestions on faster weightloss after the banding. I mean more excercise, more Protein, sooner fills ? just wondering if any one had any decent tips.

Hey Anarch, (kind of doc I like). I got banded on 18th also. This was my second banding. I had a slip :crying:the first go around and lost my band in Sept. 08. I lost 203 lbs with the first band. I guess that qualifies me for fairly fast lostt since i lost over half of it in first year. The things that work for me are to follow the guidelines as close as you can, but get in at least 1000 to 1200 cals perday unless you are super small anyhow for a banded person. Then make sure you eat low carb. I could not stay on low carb all the time but would get on it when I reached a plateau and voooom within a week I would see a huge weight loss. Usually stayed on it about 3 weeks and I am not talking about drastic low carb but around 50 carbs per day. Even when not low carbing eat your protein first.

You didn't say whether or not you are female, but if you are and still have periods, then just know that you weight will fluctuate and don't let it throw you. Also either males or females should not expectt a steady wt loss, but males are more likely to see it. Track your calories in fitday. Exercise as soon as your surgeon permits. I got a trainer after I lost the first 50 lbs. It was well worth it. Lets see, for now, that is all I can think of from my previous expereience besides about fills.

It is important that your band be adjusted so that it curbes the hunger, however it is equally important that it not be too tight. If it is it can actually slow down your wt. loss by causing you to get into soft food syndrom. This aside from the increased probablility of a slip is good reason not to have it too tight.

If you are inclined to chat, the chat room on here is very active and a great source of support and fun.:) Good luck, let me know how it works for you, since we have the same bandiversary.

Hi

I am also having my surgery on June 30th at NYU.

Good luck, Mimi. I was banded at NYU by Dr Fielding on Jun 8th. The entire operating/post op team was great! You're in good hands.

Congratz, time will fly now for sure. I know I am thrilled about my new band and it wasn't nearly as rough as I expected. I am walking around beautiful San Pedro which is a suburb of Monterrey and having fun:smile2:, then suddenly it is time to go back to the hotel and snooze. I can't sleep at night cause I keep thinking about plastics tommorrow. I should sleep good tonight!

YEA MANDIE!!! Welcome to the land of the banders!!! Glad all went well for you! Keep me posted on how you are doing. I am going back to work tomorrow!!! UGH!!! I enjoyed my relaxing time off. All my pain is gone just the port site is a bit tender to the touch. All bandages off except at the port site. But....come Tuesday I can start to go in the pool!! I plan on doing some Water exercises for the big ole belly and my chicken arms. I'll shrink what I can and learn to live with the rest!!!

Take care

Dot

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
