Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

Recommended Posts

Hello -

Hope all that are Mother's had a good day yesterday!

It was the 1st Mother's Day without my Mom and without my Mother-in-Law......so it was both a joyous and sad day.

I am now 2 weeks post-op and have NO restriction what so ever. I am able to eat almost anything, I have had little bites of steak, lamb, chicken and spring salad.

Now I have NOT had a full portion of any of that. My calorie intake is around 800 a day.

I am SUPPOSE to be on the mushy stage, but have had solids with NO PROBLEMS at all. I can't wait until that 1st fill.

I can't wait for the fill either! I know it takes a few fills to get to the sweet spot. But I'll take any help a fill will give!

April 30th was when I had my first fill (3cc's on a 13 cc capacity band) and still don't have ANY restriction. Is anyone else experiencing this? I honestly wonder if the Fluid went into the port correctly. Both last night and tonight I had full dinners without issue, and that seems strange.

Hi ya'll, Haven't checked in in awhile:ohmy:. 2 weeks today post-op and 15 lbs down from surgery day,28lbs from program start and 60 lbs from highest wt. Since banding I'm down about 1 lb. a day:biggrin:. I would do this all over again in a heartbeat. I haven't had any pain at all throuhout the whole procedure and no gas at all.:mad2: I'm out walking with my dog every day and plan on going back to the gym as soon as this swine flew thing has passed:eek:.Right now my goal is to lose 100 lbs from here on out to reach my goal. Had two incisions and three holes. Incisions are healed as is one of the holes. The other two only have very small scabs on them which I'll probably lose in the next few days. Had my post-op Drs. visit and he said everything was textbook and I should do very well with the band. First fill scheduled for June 11. I have been following along here in the shadows and it is good to here that most everyone is doing fine:thumbup:. Guess that's all for now,I'll check back in after my first fill.:D

Hi everyone, just thought I'd check in. Glad to see everyone is well. It's hard to stay positive sometimes in bandster hell... Well, I'm 12 days postop and have only had Protein Shakes and creamed Soups and I just couldn't take it anymore. Last night I ate 1 bite of rotisserie chicken by DH was having for dinner. I chewed it to death and OMG was it delicious! Followed by a couple bite of mashed potatoes and it was heaven. I was really busy yesterday and I've come to learn I eat when I'm tired so I think that's why the cravings were so bad last night. I definitely have to work on that. Anyway, I had no problems with it going down and I don't think any harm done. Back to full liquids today. I'll be good. See the surgeon tomorrow and I hope he gives the go ahead for mushies. How's everyone dealing with "munchies"? Head hunger, I guess is the term--it's a bugger!

I had my first fill of 3 cc in a realize band and have not felt any restriction. The dietician said once I was back on solid food I might feel some which I really didn't. I did have a couple episodes of eating tooooooo fast and got stuck though so I guess there must be some restriction there.

I go back in 2 weeks which seems like forever.

Hi All!!! I saw my doctor last week, and everything is going just great. I'm eating just about anything I want now, and boy does it taste good, lol. I go for my first fill on June 2. I'm a little nervous. She's going to do it under floriscope and said that she'll make it so that the liquid will "just trickle" through my stoma...I have a feeling I'll be learning a new way to eat again after that. I hope everyone is doing well. I'll check back again.

Love to all my bunny bandsters!!

hello bunnies, i have been mia, moving, husband lost job and kids in new schools. but as far as the band life it is super. I wouldn't go back for anything. so far since end of dec. i have lost 41 lbs I am in the 200's now it is amazing how silly that is but it is so cool. I had my first fill yesterday and it was rather interesting. Did not hurt at all and i am feeling restriction. I am on liquids for 3 days and mushies for 2. Dr francis says that how she does things to let them adjust. Having my husband home all the time is also helping his support is amazing. well bunnies sorry to be long winded but had lots to catch up on.

Hey, Bunnies, just checking in. I am going tomorrow for my first fill. I am looking forward to being restricted, at this point I can eat all I want(but I don't because it would be more weight to lose). Did you guys watch the biggest loser last night? I was impressed, the winner who was a 48 yr old woman lost more weight than she weighed, She did great.

I have been working witha woman I work with, she is being my personal trainer. She calls me every day and says, I'll be there in 5 minutes. We then walk our whole complex. She walks very fast and I keep up with her except for one hill, I always have to stop halfway to catch my breath. I also bought a treadmill and walk 20 minutes on it days when I'm not at work.

Tomorrow is my weigh day and I hope I lost more weight, I find it easier if I weigh myself only once a week. My drs appts are on Thursdays,so I weigh in then.

Ok, I will let you know how the fill goes tomorrow. Have a great night everyone.

Dear Bunnies, checking in. Seen post op visit 5/11. First fill sched 6/22. Now on mushies. My instructions are to eat 3 meals a day, 1/2 cup portion total, buit if hungry can have a low cal/protein snack. Doing well, I get hungry in afternoon and have a sugar free pudding or Protein Drink. I am finding that I can get liquids in more in AM before I have bkfast and that hunger pains stay away if I have bkfast later around 9am. H ave lost 18.5 lb since surgery 4/24, a total of 42.5lbs. It is really nice to see the scale under 250. Thanks for all the encouragement Bunnies. MiMi

I am glad to hear that some of you aren't feeling any restriction either. I can pretty much eat anything as long as I chew it well. It kinda stinks! My first fill is next Tuesday and I hope it helps tame my hunger. I am hungry all the time!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
