No desire for Soda's

Recommended Posts

I was very worried about completely giving up Dr. Pepper after I was banded. Actually I was scared that I wouldn't be able to do it. I would drink 2 Diet Dr. Peppers everday (1 for Breakfast) and almost always have one regular Dr. Pepper fountain drink after lunch. I haven't had the slightest desire to have one - diet or regular. In fact, this is the first time I even though about it and that is because my husband is working at home tonight and he just came in and said he was going to 7-11 to get a Coke.

My Dr. didn't say I had to give them up all together, but he did say they weren't good for you and keep them to a minimum, and none until I was on regular food.

I have not had a single soda since banding. and also since banding when ever we have a meeting at work or a special day, my co-workers don't get sodas either. What good friends I have!!!! :)

Terri, you do have good friends!

Well, it has been two weeks and I still haven't had a Dr. Pepper or any soda for that matter.

Today was my first day of semi-solids. I had a 2 hour lunch mmeting and they served meatloaf and mashed potato so I guess I was lucky there. I made a very small plate, I was scared to eat real food. :-) I did fine though but I worked on eating for 30 minutes and didn't make a very big dent in my plate.

I need to go to my Mom's and use her scale and weigh. I have no clue if I have lost any weight, but I can say I am never hungry, in addition to having no desire for sodas. I wish I had done this two years ago when I went into plus size.

i am i mean WAS a big coke drinker (not diet) that is all i everwanted was a coke extra ice. i was banded on aug 10 & havent had 1 either. i did get a diet lemonade from sonic i was in so much pain after just half of it. i went back by there & asked the manager if it was carbonated he said YES it comes from the drink machine. so i wouldnt even think of a coke. i am like barb just getting off the soda should make the weight come off. i am still eating to fast . sandie

Barb,

I took one drink of diet coke after my band and decided I really did not want it. It did not taste good at all. I guess I was afraid to like it so I didn't. My doctor said they are not sure but carbonation might stretch the stomach so I decided to just leave it alone. I haven't missed it yet.

I know exactly what you mean.

I think you are in the normal range though. Most of us experience this same freaked-out thoughts, scared to death just thinking about NO soda post op. HOW WILL I SURVIVE?

But ya havent missed it, huh?

another great thing that the band does for us!

I could drink up to 2 litres of regular Coke or Dr. Pepper a day - preband. But when the doctor told me I should avoid sodas after banding I decided I would quit cold turkey ahead of time. No sodas for 3 weeks pre-op and I lost 20 pounds!

Now, I don't have any desire for one.. well, maybe that's not exactly true. There are times I think "I need a Coke", but when I really think about it, I don't "need" or even want a Coke anymore.

hi folks, I'm new to this whole thing but plan to be banded very soon. My main concern is giving up soda, especially diet drinks. I swear, I've worried more about giving them up than pain, fills, whatever! Soooo glad to hear you all are doing so well without! What about you beer drinkers, any problem giving it up?

I too thought how can I go without my diet coke, it is amazing, I have not had one since prebanding and have no desire to even give one a try. It is just a non-issue anymore. Weird isnt it?

you hit a true nerve on that one!

I cant do beer :) not even a sip. The carbonation is so strong that I have a very hard time with a very small amount.

Ill have an occasional maragarita....

but nothing better then an ice cold beer (especially on a hot day like today). So this one was a struggle for me!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
